First introduced in India in 2004, the Honda CR-V (second-generation) was sold as a CBU (completely built unit) for two generations. The fourth-generation model arrived through the CKD (completely knocked down) route in 2013, followed by its fifth-generation in 2018. However, with the implementation of BS6 emission norms in 2020, the CR-V diesel was discontinued in India.
Now, Honda is evaluating the sixth-generation Honda CR-V for India once again.
Honda has confirmed six new models for the Indian market, all slated to arrive in FY2026-2027. The upcoming lineup will include multiple global models, which will serve as halo products for the brand. The hybrid variants of the Honda Civic, Accord and CR-V are currently under consideration, and if approved these models will launch during the current fiscal year.
The Honda CR-V hybrid SUV is expected to be priced between ₹50.00 Lakhs* – ₹60.00 Lakhs* (ex-showroom).
The sixth-generation Honda CR-V comes with a significantly improved design and noticeable dimensional changes. Compared to its predecessor, the SUV has grown by 69mm in length and 10mm in width, while the wheelbase has been increased by 10mm. The current model measures 4,706mm in length, 1,866mm in width and 1,690mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,700mm.
The SUV’s design and styling draw inspiration from Honda BR-V. Upfront, the SUV features an upright grille, connected LED headlamps with a prominent chrome strip, wide air intakes, sporty bumper and a longer bonnet.
Other exterior highlights include squared wheel arches, black body cladding, door mounted ORVMs, slim window line, up to 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, vertical LED taillamps, tailgate mounted spoiler and L-shaped lighting signature at the rear.
The interior layout shares a strong resemblance with the Civic and Accord sedans. The CR-V layered dashboard design with hidden AC vents along with features such as a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system (higher trims only), wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bose premium sound system, wireless charger, connected car tech, USB Type-C ports, OTA updates, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, HUD, a panoramic sunroof, ADAS and several more.
In global markets, the new CR-V is available with two engine options – a 1.5L turbo petrol for the lower variants and a 2.0L hybrid for the higher trims. The strong hybrid version features a 2.0, 4-cylinder Atkison cycle petrol engine, 184bhp electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack. It offers a combined power of 204bhp. The sedan comes with both FWD and AWD drivetrain configurations. It does 0 to 100kmph sprints in 9.4 seconds and has a top speed of 194kmph. The CR-V also offers four driving modes – Eco, Normal, Sport and Snow.
As a premium CBU hybrid offering, the Honda CR-V will directly rival premium mainstream SUVs including the Toyota Fortuner, Volkswagen Tayron R-Line and Skoda Kodiaq.
