Honda working on new 7-seater SUV for India

Honda working on new 7-seater SUV for India

Honda is making a new 7-seater SUV that will be built on its brand-new platform called ‘PF2’. This platform is special because it can support different types of engines, including petrol and electric ones. Earlier, people thought this SUV would just be a bigger version of the Elevate, but it looks like that’s not the case anymore. Honda is working hard to improve its presence in the domestic market, where it has faced challenges. Sales of its popular Honda City sedan have dropped, and even the Elevate SUV has seen a decline in sales recently. However, the Elevate has become very popular in Japan, where it is sold as the WR-V. In the first quarter of this calendar year, 10,659 made-in-India WR-Vs were exported to Japan, nearly double the Elevate’s domestic sales figure. This has made Honda one of the top car exporters in India. The new PF2 platform will be used for many future Honda models, including sedans, SUVs, hybrids and electric vehicles (EVs). Honda aims to start production of the new 7-seater SUV in October 2027, and it will be designed with input from both Japan and India. Under the hood, it is expected that the new SUV will use the same 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine found in the Elevate, and there may also be a strong hybrid version available. This move shows Honda’s commitment to offering different types of vehicles to meet customer needs. In addition to the new SUV, Honda plans to launch a new version of the City sedan in 2028, as well as an EV by 2029. The company’s strategy is to make India a base for producing and exporting cars, helping it regain a stronger position in the market. Considering the emission norms, Honda is betting on a mix of petrol, hybrid and electric power for its future vehicles, and the new PF2 platform will help it achieve this goal.  Also, read Renault’s 2025 India strategy with Duster, Bigster SUVs Source

New Honda Amaze to use City platform for more space and comfort
News
New Honda Amaze to use City platform for more space and comfort

We informed you earlier that the next-generation Honda Amaze will now be based on the larger Honda City platform. The new Amaze promises a significant shift from its current model, which was built on the smaller Brio platform, to a more premium structure, bringing features from Honda’s larger models into the sub-4-metre sedan segment. City platform brings bigger space, better ride quality The City’s platform has a wheelbase of 2600mm, while the new Amaze will have a modified, shorter wheelbase to fit its shell under 4 metres, enhancing mobility without sacrificing comfort. This change will provide more cabin space and a smoother drive compared to other cars in the segment, setting new standards for ride comfort and handling dynamics. Powertrain, features Under the hood, the new Amaze will likely retain the existing 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine, producing 90bhp and 110Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a CVT unit.  Honda aims to equip the new Amaze with several high-end features that were missing in the outgoing model. Expect a larger, free-standing 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a semi-digital instrument console and automatic climate control. The top-spec model could also offer features like an electric sunroof and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist. Honda’s strategy to maximise value Honda’s decision to use the City platform also plays into a broader strategy to achieve economies of scale. By sharing platforms between models like the Amaze, City and Elevate, Honda can reduce production costs and offer more value-packed features at competitive prices. The new Honda Amaze is expected to hit the market in early 2025, with production likely starting in December 2024. Its shift to the City platform could make it a game-changer in the sub-compact sedan category. With increased space, better ride quality and modern features, the new Amaze can redefine what buyers expect from an affordable compact sedan. The car brand could price it between Rs 7 lakh to Rs 11 lakh, making it compete directly with the likes of the Hyundai Aura, Tata Tigor and the soon-to-launch Maruti Dzire.
