Honda Amaze Scores 2-star Safety Rating in Global NCAP

Honda Amaze Scores 2-star Safety Rating in Global NCAP

Honda Amaze recently underwent crash testing by the Global New Car Assessment Programme (Global NCAP). The sub-4-m sedan could only receive a 2-star safety rating for adults and a 0-star for child occupants. Honda Amaze: Adult Safety Rating For adult occupants, the sedan secured 27.85 out of 34 which resulted in a 2-star safety rating. The car used for the crash test had two airbags as standard. In the frontal impact, both driver and passenger received good protection for heads, necks and chests, however for the knee, the protection was marginal. In the side impact, the head and pelvis received good protection while the chest and abdomen received marginal protection. Due to the absence of an ESC feature, the side pole test was not performed. The sedan misses out on some key safety features like ESC, seatbelt reminders for co-passengers and others, which results into the low 2-star safety rating. Honda Amaze: Child Safety Rating Unfortunately, the Amaze sedan received a 0-star rating, scoring only 8.58 points out of 49. Despite using ISOFIX anchorages and the top tethers for a 3-year-old child, the head made contact in the front impact test. The one and half-year-old dummy was at risk of being ejected while the 3-year-old child dummy suffered from high loading in the neck and chest. Honda’s Official Statement “The South Africa spec 2nd Generation Amaze has already been tested as 4 stars by GNCAP in 2019. The latest test basis new protocol shows that the total score is of 5-star level. However, mainly due to the requirement of certain equipment like Electronic Stability Control and Side Curtain Airbags, it resulted in a lower rating. At Honda, our unwavering commitment to safety is evident in the meticulous engineering of our products, integrating advanced active and passive safety technologies across our entire model range. We are dedicated to continuously work to enhance our vehicles on all parameters of Safety and improve them further at model change timing.” Also Read: Kia Carens MPV Gets 3-Star In Global NCAP Rating
