Brand-Wise EV Sales September 2025 - MG and Mahindra Fights For 2nd Spot

This is for the first time in the current financial year, electric cars managed to beat hybrids in the country. EVs contributed to 2.7 per cent of total passenger vehicle sales in September 2025. A total of 15,315 electric vehicles were sold last month as against as 6,176 units in the September 2024, reporting a YoY sales growth of 148%. 


While year-on-year EV sales increased, the MoM decreases by 16 percent. A total of 18,323 electric vehicles were sold in August 2025 as against 15,315 units in September 2025.

Tata Motors sold a total of 6216 electric vehicles in the month of September 2025 as against 3,831 units in the same month last year, reporting a YoY sales growth of 62 percent. The company is currently the largest EV manufacturer in India, and is planning to launch multiple new electric SUVs in next 1-2 years. 


MG EV Sales September 2025


MG Motor and Mahindra are holding 2nd and 3rd position in the list of top selling electric vehicle manufacturers. MG sold a total of 3912 EVs last month as compared to 1,020 units in September 2024, reporting a YoY sales growth of 284%. Mahindra is at 3rd position with 3,243 electric SUVs sold in September 2025 as against 476 units in the same month last year, reporting a YoY sales growth of 581 percent. 


BYD is at 4th position with 547 EVs sold in September 2025, reporting a YoY sales growth of 211 percent. Kia reported a massive jump, as it sold 506 units last month as against 20 units in September 2024. Hyundai sold 349 EVs last month, and reported a YoY sales growth of 1103 percent. 


BMW is the leading luxury EV manufacturer with 310 vehicles sold in September 2025 as against 116 units in the same month last year, reporting a YoY sales growth of 167 percent. Mercedes-Benz is at the 2nd position with 97 EVs sold last month. 


Tesla manages to sell 64 Model Y SUVs in the Indian market in September 2025. While Citroen EV sales stands at a dismal 36 units. Volvo sold 23 EVs, while Porsche sold 5 EVs last month.
