Car manufacturers in India have started releasing their sales numbers for the month of May 2025. Most of the brands posted positive sales growth, suggesting a positive environment in the market. Mahindra remains strong in the market and continues to post healthy YoY sales growth. Similarly, MG Motor India’s EV game is well accepted among Indian buyers. Let’s talk in detail about the May 2025 sales performance of all the brands in India -
Mahindra & Mahindra has reported an impressive 17% year-on-year increase in total sales for May 2025. The company sold a total of 84,110 vehicles including domestic and export markets. In the passenger vehicle category, Mahindra sold 52,431 SUVs in the domestic market last month.
Mahindra reported a year-on-year sales growth of 21 per cent compared to the same month last year. The brand’s cumulative sales including domestic and exports stand at 54,819 units, which is impressive. The brand’s Year-to-date (April-May) passenger vehicle sales increased by 24 per cent, while the total exports grew by 55 per cent.
Tata Motors has reported a total sales of 70,187 units in May 2025, including domestic and exports. The company has registered a YoY sales decline of 9 per cent, as it sold 76,766 units in the same month last year. The big news is that Tata’s passenger vehicle sales dropped significantly in May 2025.
In the passenger vehicle category, including electric vehicles, Tata Motors sold a total of 42,040 vehicles in May 2025 as compared to 47,075 units in the same month last year. The company reported a year-on-year sales decline of 11 per cent. In the domestic market, Tata sold 41,557 vehicles while 483 units were exported. The company sold 5,685 electric vehicles in May 2025, reporting a marginal YoY sales increase of 2 per cent.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) continues to impress us with its strong sales in past one year. The company reported a 22 per cent increase in sales in May, 2025. Toyota sold a total of 30,864 units last month, which includes exports of 1,584 units. Toyota claims that the strong demand for its MPVs and SUVs and the newly launched Innova HyCross exclusive edition helped the brand to achieve overall growth.
The company had sold 25,273 units in the same month last year. In the period of April-May 2025, Toyota sold a total of 58,188 vehicles and reported a significant growth of 27 per cent. In the same period last fiscal, the company sold 45,767 vehicles.
Toyota said that the MPV and SUV segments have contributed significantly to its growth. These segments reported a combined sales increase of 34 per cent during April-May FY 2025-26 when compared to the same period last financial year.
MG Motor India has reported a massive 40 per cent year-on-year sales growth in May 2025. The company sold a total of 6,304 units in May 2025 as compared to 4,510 units sold in the same month last year. In the month of April 2025, the company sold 5,829 units as compared to 4,725 units in April 2024.
MG claims that the Windsor EV and the newly launched Windsor EV PRO contributed heavily to the brand’s performance. Commenting on the sales growth, JSW MG Motor India said, “With the impressive performance of the MG Windsor and its variants, JSW MG Motor India has strengthened its position as one of India’s most trusted and leading electric vehicle (EV) brands.”
Kia sold a total of 22,315 units in May 2025 as compared to 19,500 units in the same month last year. The company has reported a year-on-year sales growth of 14.43 per cent. Kia claims that the newly launched Carens Clavis has received excellent response from customers, which plays an important role in brand’s positive sales.
Kia India has also confirmed that it will launch an all-new model in India this year. Scheduled to be revealed in July 2025, the new vehicle is likely to be an electric version of the Clavis.
