The all-electric VinFast VF7 SUV has been spotted on Indian soil for the first time, just months ahead of its official launch. Seen on a flatbed truck near Mumbai Airport, the test vehicle appears to be in the final stages of local testing before hitting showrooms. This marks a significant milestone for the Vietnamese EV brand as it prepares to enter the competitive Indian electric SUV space.

The VF7 test mule seen in Mumbai is finished in Jet Black, one of four paint options offered by the brand globally. Other colours include Crimson Red, Brahimny White and Neptune Grey. Notably, the SUV sports a new set of 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 245/50 R19 Apollo Aspire tyres – a shift from the 20-inch Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres showcased at Auto Expo 2025. This change likely caters to Indian road conditions, with better ride comfort in mind.
The camouflaged model reveals a few tech features, including cameras on the wing mirrors and bumpers, suggesting the presence of a 360-degree camera and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). A large floating touchscreen can also be partially seen inside the cabin, though it is unclear whether this is the 12.9-inch or the larger 15-inch unit offered globally.
Internationally, the VinFast VF7 is offered in two variants – Eco and Plus – both powered by a 75.3kWh battery. The Eco variant features a single front-mounted motor producing 204hp and 310Nm, while the Plus variant gets a dual-motor AWD setup delivering 354hp and 500Nm. Claimed WLTP ranges are 450km for the Eco and 431km for the Plus. It remains to be seen if both variants will be available in India.
The official India launch of the VinFast VF7 is expected around October 2025, aligning with the festive season. The electric SUV is being locally assembled at VinFast’s new facility in Tamil Nadu, which could help the brand price it competitively between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 30 lakh. To further bring down the upfront cost, VinFast is also evaluating a battery leasing model, similar to MG Motor India’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) plan.
Upon launch, the VF7 will directly take on the BYD Atto 3, which is priced between Rs 24.99 lakh and Rs 33.99 lakh. The Atto 3 offers two battery options – 49.92kWh and 60.48kWh – with ARAI-certified ranges of 468km and 521km respectively. With its competitive specifications, premium features, and aggressive pricing strategy, the VinFast VF7 could emerge as a strong contender in India’s growing electric SUV segment.
