MG IM6 Electric SUV Set to Arrive in India by October 2026

MG IM6 SUV arrives in India in October 2026. Coupe-style design with 26.3-inch panoramic screen. Advanced EV tech and fast charging for long-range drives.

MG is preparing to launch its next model in India through its premium Select outlets. The upcoming MG IM6 SUV is expected to hit showrooms around October 2026. It will be a full import and positioned below the M9, likely serving as the entry point to the MG Select lineup. Prices are expected to start around Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom).

Background and MG’s EV Push

The IM6 was first showcased at Auto Expo 2025, generating considerable interest. MG’s IM brand, which stands for Intelligent Mobility, was founded in 2020 as an EV-only brand by SAIC Motor in partnership with Alibaba and R&D specialists from Zhangjiang Hi-Tech. The success of MG’s first two Select models, the Cyberster roadster and M9 MPV, encouraged the company to bring the IM6 to India.

Performance and Battery Options

The range-topping IM6 uses an 800V electrical architecture, allowing DC fast charging at up to 396kW. Its 100kWh battery can charge from 30% to 80% in just over 15 minutes. The IM6 will be offered in multiple configurations internationally:

Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD): 408hp, 500Nm torque, 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds, with a WLTP-rated range of 555 km.

All-Wheel Drive (AWD): 778hp, 802Nm torque, 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, with a range of 505 km.

It is still unclear which of these versions MG will bring to India, but both promise impressive performance and range.

Design and Interior

The IM6 is not a traditional SUV but leans more toward a coupe-like crossover. Its design features smooth, aerodynamic body panels, large L-shaped LED headlamps, and a full-width rear light bar. Inside, it offers a 26.3-inch panoramic screen setup and an additional 10.5-inch vertical screen.

Advanced tech includes ultra-long-range LiDAR, NVIDIA Orin X chip, and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 processor on the international-spec model, making it a tech-heavy, futuristic electric SUV.

Competition and Future Plans

Internationally, the IM6 competes with models like the Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV6.

Following the IM6, MG plans to bring a Mahindra XUV 7XO rival by the end of 2026, which will be a plug-in hybrid EV based on the Wuling Starlight 560. A replacement for the Astor/ZS EV SUVs is also expected in 2027, expanding MG’s EV lineup in India.
