Maruti Suzuki is aiming to regain its lost market share in the highly competitive Indian market. On the sidelines of Tokyo Motor Show 2025, Toshihiro Suzuki, President Suzuki Motor Corporation said that it aims to achieve 50% market share, which is currently stands at 38%. To achieve this ambitious target, Maruti Suzuki plans to launch eight new sports utility vehicles in India over the next five to six years.
He further claims that Suzuki is aiming to become the biggest seller of electric cars in India. Moreover, the Japanese brand wants to maintain its lead as India’s biggest car exporter. The new SUVs will bring Maruti Suzuki’s total product portfolio to 28 models in India. From entry-level to large SUVs, MSIL is working on different types of products for the domestic market.
The company will continue to adopt multi-powertrain strategy, including hybrids, CNG and biogas-powered cars. Suzuki has already announced to invest $8 billion in India. The company is planning to expand its annual production capacity in India to 4 million units from some 2.5 million units. Out of the total capacity, close to 1 million units will be for export markets.
Maruti Suzuki has recently launched the Victoris mid-sized SUV through its ARENA dealership network. The company is preparing a micro SUV and an all-new premium SUV, which are expected to launch by 2026-2027. A new 7-seater premium SUV to challenge the likes of the Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari is also under consideration.
Maruti Suzuki will soon launch its long-awaited electric vehicle, the Suzuki e Vitara. Likely to arrive in December 2025, the electric Vitara will rival the Mahindra BE 6 and Hyundai Creta Electric. Maruti Suzuki will also launch the next-gen Brezza, while the Grand Vitara will soon receive a mid-life upgrade.
Maruti Suzuki is developing an affordable hybrid powertrain, which will utilise the 1.2L 3-cylinder NA petrol engine. This hybrid system will power the brand’s mass-market cars, and the Fronx facelift will be the first to receive the new hybrid engine.
