BMW M to launch fully electric models in 2027. New M eDrive system with four motors for better control. Over 100 kWh battery capacity for high-performance driving.
BMW M is preparing to launch fully electric high-performance cars, with the first models based on the new Neue Klasse platform expected to arrive globally in 2027. These electric M models will combine BMW’s performance-driven design with new electric technology, marking a big shift for the brand’s M division.

The new Neue Klasse platform will be the foundation for BMW’s upcoming electric M models. It’s designed specifically for high-performance vehicles and will feature a completely new electric architecture. The most important part of this is the M eDrive system, which will use four electric motors; one for each wheel. This setup will allow the car to control the power sent to each wheel individually, to improve performance.
The four-motor setup in these new M models will combine features of rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive systems. In some situations, the front axle can be decoupled to prioritize rear-wheel drive, which helps improve efficiency when cruising at steady speeds. This makes the car more efficient without losing the performance that M cars are known for.
BMW’s Dynamic Performance Control software will manage the power distribution between the wheels, allowing the vehicle to adapt in real-time and deliver the best performance in different driving conditions.

These electric M models will use a new battery with over 100 kWh of usable capacity. Built with BMW’s sixth-generation battery technology and an 800V architecture, the battery is designed to handle high-performance driving. The cooling and energy management systems will help the battery maintain performance during demanding driving conditions. The battery casing will also add stiffness to the car, contributing to overall vehicle strength.
BMW will offer selectable driving modes in the new electric M models, allowing drivers to adjust the car’s behavior based on their preferences. The cars will also feature simulated gear shifts to mimic the experience of driving a traditional M car, adding to the driving enjoyment. To improve the driving experience, these electric models will have sound profiles that mimic the noise of a performance engine.
The first electric M models are set to launch globally in 2027. While BMW hasn’t revealed specific details about performance or model availability yet, these electric cars are expected to offer the same level of excitement and performance that M fans expect.
As for India, BMW has not confirmed when these electric M models will arrive, but given the increasing interest in electric vehicles, it’s likely that they will eventually be available in the country.
