MG4 EV gets bigger, lighter, and more tech-packed. First production EV with semi-solid-state battery arriving soon. India launch expected in late 2025, priced around Rs 30 lakh.
MG4 EV is a popular car, available across multiple global markets including China, Europe, Australia, and various Asian countries. Around three years after the first-gen MG4 EV was introduced, the 2nd-gen model has been launched in China at the Chengdu Auto Show 2025. A total of five trims are on offer, with competitive pricing similar to the first-gen model.
Indian buyers can also look forward to the MG4 EV’s launch in India by late 2025, likely priced around Rs 30 lakh. Let’s check out the details.
The new MG4 EV is built on SAIC’s E3 pure electric architecture, making it more spacious and lightweight. The hatchback now measures 4,395 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width, 1,551 mm in height, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase.
On the outside, the MG4 EV features projector headlamps, a split honeycomb grille, sporty side air ducts, and an illuminated MG logo. The side profile has body-coloured ORVMs, conventional door handles, and sporty alloy wheels, while the rear sports LED tail lights with a connecting strip, roof spoiler, and a distinctive bumper design.

MG will introduce a semi-solid-state battery in the Anxin Edition later this year, making the MG4 EV the first production EV with this technology. The 70-kWh battery offers enhanced safety, better cold-weather performance, longer lifespan, and higher energy density, delivering a CLTC range of 537 km.
The standard MG4 EV variants use Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries with two options: 42.8 kWh (437 km range) and 53.9 kWh (530 km range). Fast charging from 30% to 80% takes just 20 minutes.
The MG4 EV is powered by a six-in-one integrated electric motor, producing 120 kW (161 hp) and 250 Nm torque, with a top speed of 160 km/h. Thanks to a lighter body (1,485 kg) and a new platform, it promises better handling and efficiency compared to its predecessor.
Inside, the MG4 EV offers a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument display, with lower trims featuring a 12.8-inch touchscreen. Developed with Oppo and powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 SoC, the system supports seamless connectivity and entertainment.
Top trims come with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including 360° cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and front/rear cameras, enabling features like lane keeping assist, autonomous lane change, and auto parking.
The MG4 EV is priced competitively in China, starting at 68,800 yuan (~Rs 8.5 lakh) for the base variant, while the Anxin Edition with semi-solid-state battery is priced at 102,800 yuan (~Rs 12.7 lakh). It competes with the Volkswagen ID.3, Cupra Born, and Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric in global markets.
MG has showcased the MG4 EV at Auto Expo 2023 and is expected to launch it in India by late 2025 or early 2026, likely priced around Rs 30 lakh. The India-spec model will be a rear-wheel-drive electric hatchback with 51kWh or 64kWh battery, WLTP range up to 450 km, 10.25-inch infotainment, ADAS, 360-degree camera, and fast charging.
