Tata Motors is working on multiple new products, including the next-gen Nexon, Avinya and Sierra. Adding to it, the brand will introduce an all-new sub-4 meter SUV, internally called the Tata Scarlet. The new compact SUV will be positioned somewhere between the Nexon and Curvv.
Tata Motors is yet to reveal the exact launch timeline for the launch of the Scarlet compact SUV. We expect the new SUV to launch around 2026-27. The company is also reportedly to launch the next-gen Tata Nexon compact SUV in 2027.
Tata Motors is currently selling the Punch and Nexon in the sub-4 meter SUV category. The company will position the new Scarlet as a lifestyle compact SUV and will come as an alternative to the likes of the Mahindra Thar and Maruti Jimny.
Tata Motors is likely to follow Kia’s strategy of selling the Sonet and Syros simultaneously. The Scarlet will come as a more premium SUV and could carry a price tag of around 9 lakh to Rs 14 lakh.
The new Scarlet sub-4 meter compact SUV is likely to be based on a monocoque front-wheel-drive platform. Tata could utilise the Curvv’s ATLAS architecture, which is designed to manufacture SUVs measuring around 3.9 meters to 4.5 meters.
The new Scarlet will be a lifestyle SUV with design inspiration from the soon-to-be-launched Sierra. In fact, the new model design could be like a mini-Sierra, featuring a boxy profile and an upright stance. The SUV will come with modern features such as connected screens, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, powered seats, 360-degree surround view camera, LEVEL 2 ADAS and others.
The new Tata SUV is likely to be offered with multiple petrol engines, including a 1.2L turbo petrol engine and a 1.2L TGDi petrol with manual and automatic gearbox choices. The SUV could also get a new 1.5L NA petrol engine, which is likely to debut with the Sierra. Similar to new Tata SUVs, the Scarlet is also expected to receive an EV derivative.
