Maruti Fronx facelift to launch in 2026 It will come with a new Series hybrid engine Expect a mileage of around 35-40kmpl
Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch two new SUVs - e Vitara and Escudo in the Indian market this year. The company is also working on an affordable hybrid engine, which will debut in the Fronx facelift. While the official launch timeline is yet to be revealed, it is reported that the Maruti Fronx facelift hybrid will arrive in our market in 2026.
Maruti Suzuki is developing a new series hybrid engine, which will be significantly cheaper than the series-parallel and parallel-only hybrid engines. For people not in the know, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is equipped with Toyota’s series-parallel hybrid engine.
In the series hybrid engine, the petrol engine serves as a generator or range extender. Instead of directly propelling the vehicle, the engine produces electricity to power an electric motor that drives the wheels. The electric motor draws power from either a battery pack or from a generator run by the petrol engine.
The new Maruti Suzuki hybrid system will use the new Z12E, 3-cylinder engine that powers the Swift and Dzire. This 1.2L engine will work as a generator to charge a smaller (1.5-2kWh) battery pack or to drive an electric motor.
It is expected that the Maruti Suzuki Fronx facelift will return a certified fuel economy of around 35-40kmpl. It will be the most fuel efficient mass-market SUV in India. Not just the Fronx facelift, the hybrid engine will also power the next-gen Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Swift and an all-new Spacia based MPV.
The updated Fronx is likely to come with six airbags as standard, ESP, 360-degree surround view camera, hill hold assist and others. It is also expected to come with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) with features like rear cross traffic, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist and others.
The SUV is expected to receive some design changes and an upgraded cabin. On the outside, the Fronx facelift could get a new grille, tweaked bumper, new alloys, and revised headlamps and tail-lights. It could get a slightly tweaked dashboard, a bigger touchscreen infotainment unit, new seat upholstery and a factory-fitted electric sunroof.
