Toyota Innova Hycross expected to launch this festive season; Will be based on a monocoque chassis; Expected to be offered with a strong hybrid powertrain.
Toyota Kirloskar Motors India recently unveiled the Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV for the Indian market. Now the Japanese carmaker is planning to launch its 3rd new product in form of Innova Hycross. HY for Hybrid, the new MPV is expected to come powered by a strong hybrid setup. Expected to go on sale by this festive season, the MPV will be sold alongside the current-gen Toyota Innova Crysta. That said, the Crysta will also receive a minor facelift by the end of this year.
The test mule of this MPV has been spotted multiple times while being road-tested. As per media reports, the vehicle will be based on a completely new monocoque chassis, making it more suitable for urban buyers for their city and highway commutes. It is expected to use the heavily localised version of Toyota’s global TNGA-C or GA-C architecture. This new architecture will help the four-wheeler lose considerable weight resulting in better on-road driving dynamics and increased fuel efficiency. Further it will provide modern tech features like a panoramic sunroof which we have also seen on the Hyryder along with a digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats and more.
The Hycross will use a 2.0-litre petrol engine paired to a THS II (Toyota Hybrid System). This setup will come with two electric motors which are capable of delivering high torque along with better fuel efficiency. It will sport a traditional car-like front-wheel drive setup and there will be no diesel engine on offer.
