We informed you earlier that Tata Motors will launch the Sierra ICE (petrol and diesel) in November 2025. The SUV will measure around 4.3 meters in length and will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Maruti Victoris. However, two brand new mid-sized SUVs with rugged appeal and powerful engine will soon arrive in our market. These two SUVs will rival the Tata Sierra ICE and turbo petrol versions of the Creta, Seltos and others in the category.
Renault has confirmed that the third generation Duster SUV will finally arrive in our market in Q1, 2026. Nissan has recently announced its new mid-sized SUV, the Tekton, for the Indian market. Both SUVs will share the platform, engine and features, and will be manufactured at Renault’s Chennai based plant.
These two SUVs will be based on the CMF-B modular platform, which also underpins the global-spec models. The new Duster will be powered by a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine with manual and dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The same engine will also power the upcoming Nissan Tekton. This engine produces 156bhp and 250Nm of torque.
The entry-level variants of the SUVs could get a 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol or a 1.5L NA petrol. Renault is also working on a hybrid version of this powertrain, which is expected to arrive in the end of 2026 or early 2027. The Tekton could also get the hybrid engine at a later stage.
