The electric vehicle (EV) market is set to expand significantly with the introduction of several affordable models in the near future. These upcoming electric cars promise to attract a wide range of customers without compromising on important features such as range, safety, and technology.
Here is a list of the upcoming affordable EVs that are going to hit the market in the next 2 years:
After joining hands with the JSW Group, MG Motor India is expected to bring the Cloud EV to the Indian market. This electric MPV is already on sale as a Wuling Cloud MPV in Indonesia. But, for India, the car will be renamed as MG Cloud EV. The upcoming EV is likely to get a 50.6kWh battery pack with a single electric motor. It can deliver a maximum range of over 505 km on a single charge. Expected to launch before the end of this year, the EV could be priced between Rs 15-20 Lakh in India.
Apart from Cloud EV, MG is also planning to launch the Yep Plus EV for Indian customers. The model has already been launched in China as Baojun Yep Plus e-SUV at Rs 10.8 lakh. In India, this 5-door electric SUV is expected to launch by March 2025. Although there are no battery details for the India-spec model, globally it takes power from the 41.9 kWh battery pack and delivers a range of 401 km on a single charge.
A few months ago, Kia registered a new name Syros in India, indicating that it might launch as a new Kia electric car at an affordable price. Meanwhile, the brand is testing the Clavis model which was spotted in two variants (ICE and electric). Speculation suggests that the upcoming Kia EV could be named either Syros or Clavis EV. The electric variant is likely to be launched after six months of launching the ICE-powered version in early 2025.
Maruti is preparing to launch its new electric SUV named eVX in India by the first quarter of 2025. It will be locally manufactured at the brand's Gujarat-based manufacturing plant. Plus, it will be designed and developed on the new skateboard platform, which is developed jointly by Toyota and Suzuki. The electric SUV could be powered by two battery packs - 48 kWh and 60 kWh, offering a range of 400 km and 500 km, respectively.
The Chinese automaker, BYD will also launch its affordable EV in the Indian market. Named Seagull, this electric hatchback could be positioned below Dolphin which will also join BYD's lineup in future. As for the battery details, no information has surfaced officially. The upcoming BYD Seagull could be priced at Rs 10 lakh.
