Hyundai Exter: Safety Features Explained

Hyundai Exter was recently launched in India, with prices ranging between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The compact SUV has a wide range of safety and convenience features, comprising some first-in-segment inclusions. In fact, to compete with its key rival, Tata Punch, a 5-star rated car in the GNCAP crash tests, the Korean carmaker greatly emphasises safety.

Interestingly, Hyundai cars is highly confident, affirming the 2023 Exter as one of their safest cars in the country.

Hyundai Exter: Safety Features

The all-new Hyundai Exter is the first model in its class to get six airbags (dual-front, side and curtain airbags) as standard fitment. Other features like an Anti-Theft Alarm, Emergency Stop Signal, High-Speed Auto Door Lock, Impact-Sensing Auto-Door Unlock, ABS with EBD, Rear Parking Sensors and a 3-point Seat Belt for all seats are also part of the standard safety kit. Notably, the carmaker is also providing ESC (Electronic Stability Control), VSM (Vehicle Stability Management) and HSAC (Hill Start Assist Control) as an option on the lower variants and standard from the SX trim.

For those who aren’t aware, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) improves a vehicle’s stability, particularly in challenging driving conditions or during sudden manoeuvres. In case of skid or loss of control, the ESC intervenes by applying brakes to individual wheels and altering engine power to help the driver regain control, thus decreasing chances of skidding & rollovers and enhancing traction. On the other hand, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) is beneficial in situations like wet/icey driving surfaces or during harsh steering/lane changing conditions, where it tries to keep the vehicle stable with the help of ABS and traction control system.

The Hill-Start Assist (HHA), also known as Hill-Hold Control (HHC), prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards for 3 seconds on an inclined section, thus allowing the driver to move their foot from the brake to the accelerator pedal and make a hill start effortless and worry-free.

The higher variants of the Exter also receive a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, ISOFIX Child Seat Anchors, Headlamp Escort Function, Rear Parking Camera and the first-in-segment Dual Dash Camera setup. The latter can be extremely advantageous in case of any mishappening, providing evidence in the event of an accident, offering security against theft and vandalism, improving driving behaviour, and capturing memorable driving moments.

Hyundai Exter: Bharat NCAP

Hyundai is considering the Exter crash tested under the forthcoming BHARAT NCAP program, which is anticipated to be introduced in October this year. If Exter achieves a 4 or 5-star safety rating, it will up Hyundai’s ante in the Indian automobile market.
