Lamborghini delays its first electric car launch Lanzador to arrive as a plug-in hybrid first Full EV now expected after 2030
Lamborghini has decided to delay its first fully electric car, pushing the launch timeline to beyond 2030. The move comes as demand for high-performance luxury EVs remains limited, especially in the supercar segment.
The brand is now reworking its strategy to better align with customer expectations while continuing its electrification plans.

The much-anticipated Lamborghini Lanzador was originally planned as Lamborghini’s first all-electric model. However, the company has now decided to postpone its EV debut.
CEO Stephan Winkelmann confirmed that the brand wants to wait until the market is more ready for high-performance electric cars before going fully electric.
Instead of launching as a full EV, the Lanzador will now come as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV).
This model is expected to be a two-door car with seating for up to four people. It will likely be positioned below the Lamborghini Urus in the brand’s lineup.
The hybrid Lanzador could share components with the Urus, including a twin-turbo V8 engine, helping maintain the performance and character Lamborghini is known for.

One of the key reasons behind this shift is the importance of engine sound in a Lamborghini.
According to Winkelmann, recreating the emotional experience of a combustion engine in an EV is still a challenge. This includes factors like sound, gear shifts, and overall driving feel.
For now, hybrid technology allows Lamborghini to balance performance, sound, and efficiency without moving fully to electric.
Despite delaying its EV plans, Lamborghini is not slowing down. The company has confirmed that it will launch four new models in 2026 as part of its broader strategy.
These upcoming cars are expected to include electrified options, showing that the brand is still moving towards a more sustainable future, but at its own pace.
