The fight to secure second position in the list of India’s largest carmakers is getting intense. While Maruti Suzuki stays at the top spot, Hyundai slips to 4th position. The 2nd and 3rd positions are occupied by Tata Motors and Mahindra, respectively. However, the sales margin between these two homegrown automakers is remarkably thin.
Tata Motors is at the 2nd position in the list of top car manufacturers in the Indian market. The company has reported a total sales of 63,331 units, including domestic and international. The company has reported a year-on-year sales growth of 35 percent. In the same month last year, Tata Motors sold 46,811 vehicles in domestic and international markets.
Tata Motors has dispatched a total of 62,329 vehicles to dealerships in February 2026 as against 46,435 units in the same month last year, registering a YoY sales growth of 34 percent. The company exported 1002 vehicles last month compared with 376 units in February 2025, reporting an export growth of 167 percent.
Mahindra sold 60,018 passenger vehicles in February 2026 as against 50,420 units in the same month last year, reporting a year-on-year sales growth of 19.04 percent. However, the brand’s month-on-month PV sales declined by 5.5 percent compared to January 2026 (63,510 units).
In the FY2026, Mahindra dispatched a total of 6,00,004 passenger vehicles in the domestic market compared to 5,03,439 units in the same period last year. The company reported an impressive YoY sales growth of 19.18 percent.
