Based on the Maruti Baleno hatchback; Expected to get a coupe like design; Launch in 2023
With the 2023 Delhi Auto Expo fast approaching, we have more news about the cars expected to be unveiled during the auto show. The latest one to join the list is the long rumoured Maruti Suzuki Baleno Cross SUV (Project YTB). Expected to be showcased at the Expo before a market launch in late 2023, the new model offers customers a fresh design and powertrain options.
Based on the FUTURO-e Concept showcased at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo, the Baleno Cross borrows most of its design cues from this concept car. The front-end design of the four-wheeler resembles the Grand Vitara in many senses. Like the Vitara, this car will also sport the familiar Nexa Wave grille with split LED headlamp set-up giving the car a muscular stance. Towards the side we get to see the sloping roofline giving it a coupe like silhouette along with new design alloy wheels.
While the spy shots do not give any information of the interior, we expect the vehicle to come packed with a lot of tech. Based on the new direction taken by the company, we can expect the Baleno Cross to come provided with a large 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, Auto A/C, ESP, 6 airbags, wireless charging pad, HUD and more.
Like its hatchback sibling, the Baleno Cross will also be based on the HEARTECT platform. This will help the company keep the kerb weight low and maintain the 3990mm length restriction. However, unlike other SUV models from the company, this vehicle will not come powered by a 1.5-litre engine to benefit from the tax savings rules. We expect Maruti to provide the car with a new Suzuki Booster Jet engine whose power and economy figures are unknown at this time.
One launched, the four-wheeler will have a niche for itself in the market and strengthen the company’s hold on the SUV market.
