Toyota has unveiled the all-new 2027 Highlander, and this time it is fully electric. For the first time in 25 years, the Highlander nameplate moves to a battery electric vehicle. It is also Toyota’s first three-row electric SUV in the US and the first EV Highlander to be built in America.
The new model will be produced in Kentucky, while its battery modules will come from Toyota’s new plant in North Carolina. Sales are expected to begin in late 2026.

The 2027 Highlander EV will be offered in XLE and Limited variants. The XLE comes with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options.
The 77 kWh battery offers up to 287 miles (around 462 km) in FWD form. AWD versions with the same battery deliver about 435 km. A larger 95.8 kWh battery pack is also available, offering up to 320 miles, which is around 515 km.
The Limited variant gets the bigger battery and AWD as standard.
In terms of power, FWD models produce 221 hp. AWD versions are more powerful with 338 hp.
The Highlander EV uses the North American Charging System (NACS) port. It supports fast charging and can charge from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes under ideal conditions. An 11 kW AC charger is standard.
The new Highlander is wider and has a longer wheelbase than before, giving more cabin space. It features Toyota’s latest front design with slim LED lights and a clean look.
Inside, it gets a 14-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital driver display. The SUV can seat up to seven people. With the third row folded, it offers over 45 cubic feet of cargo space.
The SUV supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with built-in navigation. It also gets 64-color ambient lighting and an optional panoramic glass roof.
A key highlight is Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function. This allows the SUV to power external devices, which can be useful during emergencies.
Safety features include Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 with adaptive cruise control, lane assist and pre-collision warning.
The 2027 Highlander EV joins Toyota’s growing electric lineup in the US. With strong range, three-row practicality and modern features, it marks an important step in Toyota’s electric journey. Pricing will be revealed closer to launch.
