Tesla opens its first showroom in India at Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex on July 15, 2025. Despite facing 70% import duty, Tesla brings in $1 million worth of cars, including the popular Model Y. Tesla is expanding its India operations, hiring for multiple positions including sales and service staff.
Tesla, the American electric car giant, is officially entering the Indian market with the opening of its first showroom in Mumbai on July 15, 2025. The showroom, located in the Bandra Kurla Complex, will serve as the Tesla Experience Centre, marking a significant milestone in Tesla's global expansion.
Tesla has imported nearly $1 million worth of cars, including its top-selling Model Y, and various accessories into India. The company plans to sell these imported cars despite the 70% import duty imposed on electric vehicles.
While Tesla is enthusiastic about entering the Indian market, it faces a challenge with the high import tariffs that could affect its pricing strategy. The company will need to pay substantial duties and levies on each vehicle imported.
Tesla has been hiring for multiple positions in India, including store managers, sales executives, and service staff. The company is also looking for supply chain engineers and vehicle operators to help with its ambitious autopilot goals.
