Seeing the rising demand for hybrids, car manufacturers are planning to launch new cars with hybrid powertrain in India. Hyundai, Kia, Honda and Renault have already confirmed their hybrid plans, while Maruti Suzuki is developing a low-cost hybrid engine to power its entry-level cars. Mahindra & Mahindra is also readying multiple new SUVs, which will be based on the “hybrid-ready” architecture.
Mahindra had showcased 4 concepts, called the Vision S, Vision X, Vision T and Vision SXT in August 2025. These models are based on the brand’s new NU_IQ front-wheel-drive platform, which will be compatible with ICE, hybrid and electric powertrains. The Vision S and Vision X based SUVs will be the brand’s next big launches, and both are likely to come with an in-house developed hybrid engine.

The Mahindra Vision S concept based SUV will first arrive in our market in 2026 or early 2027. This is likely to be the smallest member of the Scorpio family, and will be introduced as a lifestyle SUV. The Vision X represents a new model under XUV nameplate and could come as a replacement for the XUV 3XO in 2027.
Both SUVs will be front-wheel-drive SUVs, and will first arrive in ICE avatar. Mahindra has also confirmed that the new SUVs will receive electric derivatives in the future. With the new range of SUVs, Mahindra is aiming to enter the European markets.

Mahindra has already started testing the Vision S concept based SUV on the Indian roads. It is expected that the production-ready model could be revealed sometime in 2026, while sales could begin in early 2027. The Vision X based SUV will arrive in the second half of 2027.
Before these two products, the Mahindra XUV 3XO could get a strong hybrid engine in India. Likely to be launched in 2026, the XUV 3XO compact SUV is expected to feature a 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine paired with the hybrid technology.
