The Mahindra Thar Roxx is already creating a lot of stir ahead of its launch on Independence Day. What could this new offering mean for Mahindra and fans of the off-roader, offering up a new package of features and a more spacious interior? Here is what we have been able to gather about the 5-door Thar Roxx.
It has a new multi-slat grille, new circular-shaped LED DRLs and projector-type headlamps. The SUV will have a muscular appearance but a premium one with door-mounted ORVMs. The rear door handle is placed on the C-pillar this time. With features such as the 19-inch alloy wheels (likely in the higher variants), dual-tone finish on the bumpers and the square-shaped rear LED tail lights, the car takes on a more muscular feel. The vehicle also has a fixed roof, which has prioritised the possibility to integrate a sunroof for the very first time in a Thar model.
Inside, the Thar Roxx is rather comfortable and equipped with lots of modern features. It will start with a five-seater body design layout with extra space compared to the 3-door Thar. It may come with white interiors; this can be inspired by the XUV700 also it could have features like ventilated front seats. There will be adjustments to the headrests, centre front and rear armrests and rear speakers that will be mounted on the roof.
It will be fitted with a 10.25-inch touchscreen for infotainment with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The SUV will also have a digital instrument cluster, auto-dimming IRVM and a 360-degree camera. Level 2 advanced driver assistance system or ADAS would come with adaptive Cruise control autonomy emergency brakes and lane assist among others. Other comforts will comprise push-button start, front and rear parking sensors and rear AC vents.
Six airbags, rear parking sensors, an anti-lock braking system with electronic brake force distribution, electronic stability control and ISOFIX child seat mounts will be offered. The ADAS suite will improve safety even more with additions such as high beam assist, collision and lane assist.
The Thar Roxx will use engines that will be similar to that of the Scorpio N. The car will come coupled with either a 1.5-litre turbo diesel, a 2.0-litre turbo petrol or a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine. As for the powertrain, there will be the choice of a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic. It is expected to be equipped with a 4x4 drivetrain while the rear-wheel drive (RWD) is rumoured.
The highly expected Mahindra Thar Roxx is likely to be launched between Rs 13.5 lakh and Rs 20 lakh respectively (ex-showroom). It will rival the Force Gurkha and Maruti Suzuki Jimny in that price bracket.
