The homegrown automaker, Mahindra & Mahindra, had introduced the XUV 700 mid-sized SUV in the country in August 2021. The SUV comes as a replacement for the XUV 500 and received an overwhelming response from car buyers.

The Mahindra XUV 700 is available in 5 trim levels - MX, AX3, AX5, AX7 and AX7 L - and in total of 30 variants. The XUV 700 price in India starts at Rs 13.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 26.99 lakh. All the prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.

The Mahindra XUV 700 is one of the most feature-loaded SUVs on sale in the country. It gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Additionally, the SUV gets a 10.25-inch digital driver's display, and a 6-way power adjustable driver seat with memory function.

Mahindra XUV 700 Engine Specifications

The XUV 700 is available with two engine options - a 2.0-litre, mStallion turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel. The turbocharged petrol engine churns out 197hp and 380Nm of torque. For transmission duties, the XUV 700 petrol engine gets either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. 

The diesel engine offers two states of tunes - 152hp/360Nm and 182hp/420Nm. The torque output increases to 450Nm with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Other gearbox options include a 6-speed manual gearbox. The top-spec AX7 L variant also gets a 4WD (four-wheel-drive) layout. 

Mileage

The Mahindra XUV 700 diesel manual and automatic variants returns ARAI mileage of 17kmpl and 16.57kmpl, respectively. The petrol MT delivers 15kmpl, while the automatic variant returns 13kmpl. In real world conditions, the diesel XUV 700 should offer a fuel efficiency of around 12-13kmpl.

The Mahindra XUV 700 presents the brand's more modern design philosophy, which we have also seen on new breeds of Mahindra's like XUV 3XO. The front fascia gets a muscular bonnet, and a new grille with twin vertical bars, and new sweptback LED headlamp units. 

Moving to the side, the SUV has new flush door handles and newly styled 18-inch machined-cut alloy wheels. There is a signature kink behind the C-pillar, which is similar to the one offered in the discontinued XUV500. The SUV has black body cladding all-around the body to offer a rugged feel. At the back, the XUV 700 gets tri-arrow tail-lights, a roof-mounted spoiler and silver skid plate.

The Mahindra XUV 700 comes with a layered dashboard with dual-tone black and beige finish. The soft touch materials all around the dashboard and interior body panels gives it a premium feel. The dashboard is dominated by dual HD screens - one for the infotainment unit and the other one for driver's display.

Dimensions and Boot Space

The Mahindra XUV 700 measures 4695mm in length, 1890mm in width and 1755mm in height. It rides on a 2750mm longer wheelbase, while the ground clearance stands at 200mm. The top-end variant of the SUV rides on 18-inch alloy wheels.

With all 7 seats in position, the XUV 700 offers a boot space of 240-litres. The boot space is expandable by folding the third-row seats. 

Infotainment and connectivity (Music System)

The new Mahindra XUV 700 gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. For music lovers, the SUV offers 12 speakers and a 3D sound system. The sound system is developed in partnership with Sony Corporation. 

The XUV 700 comes with connected car tech and in-built ALEXA. Called the Adrenox connect, the tech offers 70 impressive connected features. Some of the connected features are remote door lock & unlock, time & geofencing, live vehicle tracking & sharing, remote start/stop, safety and security alerts, and others. 

Safety Features

The safety features of the Mahindra XUV 700 include multiple airbags, automatic headlamps, electronic stability control, reverse camera, and others. The higher variants also get tyre pressure monitoring system, rain sensing wipers, driver drowsiness detection, blind view monitor and 360 degree camera. 

The new Mahindra XUV 700 gets radar and a camera based advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). Performance 

The XUV 700 is one of the most powerful models in its category, which is evident from its balanced performance both in City and on highways. The throttle response and steering feedback are good for both city and highway usage. The throttle response becomes more precise and steering weighs up that adds to its spirited performance. Hitting 100kmph mark is not a problem, making overtakes easy. 

The engine is not the quietest available in the market, and it gets more audible once the rev mark crosses 2,000rpm. The six-speed manual gearbox works well and the clutch feels light. The gear shifts are smooth and easy to use.

The SUV offers a good balance of ride and handling. The suspensions are tuned in a way to observe most of the rough terrains available on the road. However, it feels slightly on a firmer side at slower speeds. 

Comfort and Convenience

The XUV 700 is a 4.7 meters long car and offers a spacious cabin to accommodate 7 adults. The SUV offers a more roomy cabin than the Hyundai Alcazar. The second-row bench-seat is good enough to accommodate three adults without much issue.

The third-row is not very comfortable, but it is manageable for short highway drives. The second row doesn't slide, which also hampers the space in the third row. 

The second-row seats are comfortable and offer good headroom and legroom space. The thigh support could have been better. The driver seat is 6-way electrically adjustable and also has a memory function. The SUV offers ventilated front seats, which is a welcome addition.
