Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Facelift – What We Know So Far

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is set to get a major update in India. The popular hatchback has been spotted testing with heavy camouflage, suggesting that the facelift could bring changes to its engine, design, cabin and CNG setup.

The Wagon R has been one of Maruti Suzuki’s strongest-selling models for years, thanks to its spacious cabin, practical design and good fuel economy. The upcoming facelift is expected to keep its familiar tall-boy shape while adding several important updates.

New 1.2-Litre Engine

One of the biggest changes expected on the Wagon R facelift is a new 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder Z-Series petrol engine. Maruti Suzuki is gradually replacing its older 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder K-Series engine with the newer Z-Series unit. The same 1.2-litre engine is already used in models such as the Swift, Dzire and Baleno.

In the Wagon R, the engine is expected to produce 81bhp and 112Nm of torque. While the power figure is lower than the current 1.2-litre engine, the new unit is expected to offer better fuel efficiency and stronger low-speed performance. The gearbox options are likely to remain the same, with a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT expected.

Wagon R CNG Could Get More Boot Space

The CNG version could also receive an important update. The current Wagon R CNG has a cylinder mounted in the boot, which takes away a considerable amount of luggage space. The facelift could feature an underbody CNG tank. This could free up more usable boot space and make the CNG version more practical for everyday use and longer journeys. The new 1.2-litre Z-Series engine could also be offered with the CNG version, although Maruti Suzuki has not confirmed the final specifications yet.

Exterior Changes Expected

The Wagon R facelift is expected to retain its familiar tall-boy design, but several styling changes could make it look fresher. The test car is expected to get a revised front grille, updated bumpers and refreshed headlamp and taillamp designs. The overall shape is likely to remain largely unchanged. This means the facelift should still look like a Wagon R, but with a more modern appearance.

Larger Touchscreen and New Features

The cabin is also expected to get some updates. One of the biggest changes could be a larger 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Maruti Suzuki could also add new safety features and make changes to the dashboard and cabin layout. More details are expected to be revealed closer to the launch.

Maruti Wagon R Facelift Launch

Maruti Suzuki has not announced an official launch date for the Wagon R facelift yet. However, the test vehicles suggest that the updated hatchback could be launched in India later in 2026 or in early FY2027. The facelift is expected to cost slightly more than the current model, which is priced between around Rs 4.99 lakh and Rs 7.24 lakh, ex-showroom.

Once launched, the updated Wagon R will continue to compete with the Tata Tiago and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. With a new engine, refreshed styling and possible improvements to the CNG version, the facelift could bring some major changes to Maruti Suzuki’s popular hatchback.
