Hyundai is working on a new compact EV for India. Mahindra is expected to launch an electric XUV 3XO. VinFast could bring its small VF 3 EV to India.
India’s compact EV space is set to get more crowded, with several new electric models in the works. Hyundai, Mahindra, Tata and VinFast are among the carmakers preparing new EVs for the Indian market. Some of these models are expected to arrive soon, while others are still under development. Here are the upcoming compact EVs to watch out for.
1. Hyundai Compact EV
Hyundai is working on a new compact electric SUV made specifically for India. The model is expected to arrive before the end of 2026. The upcoming EV is expected to offer a real-world range of around 500km. This could put it up against the Tata Punch EV and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV. The new Hyundai EV is likely to have a compact size, while offering a modern design, good cabin space and a long list of features.

2. Mahindra XUV 3XO EV
Mahindra is also working on an electric version of the XUV 3XO. The new EV will join the company’s growing electric SUV range. The XUV 3XO EV is expected to keep the basic design and shape of the petrol and diesel model, but with changes to the exterior to set it apart. It will take on the Tata Punch EV and Hyundai’s upcoming compact electric SUV. Details about its battery size, range and launch date are expected to come later.
3. VinFast VF 3
VinFast could bring the small VF 3 electric SUV to India. The model is already sold in international markets and is one of the smaller EVs in the company’s line-up. The international version gets an 18.6kWh battery pack. With its small size, the VF 3 is mainly aimed at city driving. If launched in India, it could become one of the smaller and more affordable electric SUVs in the market.
4. Tata Punch EV
The Tata Punch EV is already on sale in India and will continue to be an important model in the compact EV space. The electric Punch offers a small footprint, SUV-like design and an electric powertrain. Tata is also expected to keep updating its EV range as more new models enter the market. The Punch EV will face more competition when Hyundai and Mahindra launch their upcoming compact electric SUVs.
5. Next-Gen Tata Nexon EV
Tata Motors is also working on the next-generation Nexon, which is expected to get an electric version as well. The new Nexon is likely to have a longer wheelbase and a very different design compared with the current model. The cabin could also get more space and new features. The next-gen Nexon EV is expected to remain an important model for Tata as the company adds more electric cars to its line-up.
