Citroen will enter the Indian EV race in 2023 with the launch of a compact electric car based on the upcoming C3 hatchback. C3 EV will further lead the Stellantis electrification bandwagon in India.
Citroen is all set to enter the EV space in India with its C3 based EV. The EV model will be launched in the country a few months after the ICE model makes its debut in July 2022. The affordable C3 based EV will be underpinned by the modular CMP platform, with a claimed 90 percent localisation to keep the costs in check. The C3 based EV will have an aggressive price tag, to aid the French carmaker establish its name in the Indian market.

According to Stellantis Group CEO Carlo Tavares, there are two more EVs in the pipeline for the Indian market in the MPV and SUV segment. He added that the new C3 based EV will be the first vehicle developed under its Smart Car Programme, alternatively termed as C-Cubed programme. The C3 EV will rival the likes of the Tata Tigor EV, with an almost similar price tag and the upcoming EVs will take on the Nexon EV.

Additionally, Tavares has claimed that the C3 launch got delayed due to supply chain disruptions caused by the pandemic, but assured that the EV version is on track and is ready to arrive next year. He also added that batteries will be imported currently, but the brand will look into local sourcing at a later stage. The CEO is very optimistic about the EV market in India and expects the market share to grow by 25 percent by 2030.
