If you are waiting for the Ford Everest, here’s one piece of bad news. The highly anticipated Indian return of Everest, famously known as Ford Endeavour in India, has hit a roadblock. The company has reportedly put all its plans for India on hold. However, Ford has multiple times revealed its intent of resuming manufacturing in India. But, the launch of the Everest is now facing uncertainty.
The Ford Everest has been caught testing multiple times on the Indian roads, which fuelled excitement amongst enthusiasts. It was reported that the global SUV could come as a CBU model in late 2025 or early 2026, followed by local assembly. However, these plans have been put on hold due to multiple strategic and geopolitical factors.
The major reason behind this decision is the global shift in Ford’s strategy, which is now focused on electric vehicles (EVs). Ford’s major focus on EVs for both domestic and export markets, and manufacturing Everest in isolation won’t make sense.
Adding to it, the global tariff war also played an important role in Ford’s uncertainty around India operations. The shift towards EV coupled with the tariff war has led the American Giant to reevaluate its investments and timelines for the Indian market.
Interestingly, Ford India is actively recruiting for its engineering teams at the Chennai plant. The brand’s main focus appears to be on exports and working towards achieving its long-term EV goals. And, the Everest’s launch does not seem viable in the current strategy of Ford for India. Enthusiasts may have to wait longer for the hugely popular SUV, as Ford’s immediate plans remain uncertain.
