Kia Syros is the latest sub-4-metre SUV offering from the South Korean automaker in India. The model recently made its global debut and is all set to be displayed for the public at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show in January. Its prices will be announced in February. What comes as hot news is the launch confirmation of the Kia Syros EV, which will be the first mass-market electric car from Kia India, positioned under the sub-Rs 15 lakh price segment.
Once launched, the electric Syros will face competition from the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400. Kia’s sister brand, Hyundai, is also reported to be working on a new mass-market EV, which is expected to be based on the Hyundai Exter. Details of the upcoming Kia Syros EV will be revealed in the near future, but here’s everything we can expect from this electric car.
The upcoming electric Syros is likely to be based on Hyundai-Kia’s K1 platform, which is also used in the ICE-powered Syros and Hyundai Exter. This architecture has been designed and developed for entry-level subcompact models. It debuted with the second-generation Hyundai Santro in 2018 as a replacement for the old SA platform. In fact, the global-spec Hyundai Exter EV has been developed on the K1 platform, which is expected to arrive in India in the coming years.
Globally, the Exter EV is offered with two battery options: a 92bhp, 42kWh unit and a 115bhp, 49kWh unit. While the smaller battery pack delivers a claimed range of 300km, the larger one offers 355km. The same powertrains are expected to be used for the Kia Syros EV.
Most of its features and design elements will be similar to its ICE counterpart. This means the upcoming Kia electric SUV will offer several advanced features, including a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a rear-view camera, wireless phone charging, six airbags, a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, and more. The Syros EV might also feature some EV-specific design elements on the exterior.
The Kia Syros EV is likely to arrive in India in 2026. Before this, the South Korean automaker will introduce the Kia Carens EV sometime next year. With a high level of expected localisation, the electric iteration of the Syros is likely to be priced competitively.
