Mahindra currently has no product in the hotly contested midsize SUV category, which is dominated by Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki are gearing up for the launches of the Sierra and Escudo mid-sized SUVs. Both SUVs will go on sale before the end of this financial year. At the Freedom_NU event. Mahindra revealed 4 new concepts, including the Vision S, Vision T, Vision X and Vision SXT. The Vision S is claimed to be Mahindra’s next SUV in the mid-sized SUV category.

The new Vision S mid-size SUV is based on Mahindra’s new NU_IQ modular platform, which is compatible with petrol, hybrid, diesel and electric powertrains. The company has confirmed that the new SUVs based on the modular platform will start arriving from 2027. It is expected that the Mahindra Vision S based SUV will be launched in India in 2027.
The Vision S retains Mahindra’s tough look, highlighting boxy profile with rugged design elements. The front fascia has Twin Peaks logo, complemented by triplet of vertically stacked LEDs on either side. These LEDs work as a connector between the inverted L-shaped headlights.

The SUV rugged lower bumper houses pixel-shaped LED fog lamps, a radar unit for ADAS and parking sensors. The concept has limb risers on the bonnet and roof-mounted lights, which are not likely to be offered on the production model.
The side profile shows high ground clearance, thick cladding on the doors and wheel arches, and star-shaped 19-inch wheels. The concept also has, cameras instead of ORVMs, stepladder on the kerb side and a jerry can, which will not make to the final production model.
The rear profile complemented the front design, as it also gets inverted L-shaped tail-lights and a quarter of pixel lights on the lower bumper. There is a spare wheel mounted on the tailgate, which is a welcome edition.

The cabin layout presents the design direction for the upcoming Mahindra SUVs. It offers a combination of digital and physical buttons. The Vision S is equipped with a new multi-functional steering wheel with the ‘VISION S’ emblem in the centre. It gets a new digital instrument console with new graphics, while the central touchscreen infotainment unit will feature the brand’s NU UX.
The SUV gets a newly designed central tunnel that has loads of space and buttons for multiple operations. Mahindra has used dual-tone upholstery for the dashboard and seats. It gets a panoramic sunroof, adjustable headrests and large grab handles for the rear occupants.
The new Mahindra Vision S based SUV will be based on the brand’s new NU_IQ modular platform, which will be used to develop SUVs measuring between 3,990m and 4,320mm in length. The Vision S will be around 4.3 meters in length and will be offered with ICE as well as electric powertrains.
It is expected that the Vision S based SUV will come with a strong hybrid engine, which is currently under development. Adding to it, the SUV could get the familiar 1.2-litre turbo petrol and the 1.5-litre turbo diesel engines.
