New Genesis GV90 Unveiled - Flagship Electric SUV Could Arrive in India in 2028

New Genesis GV90 unveiled as the brand’s flagship electric SUV. Gets 657hp dual-motor setup with a 123.5kWh battery. Genesis could bring the GV90 to India around 2028.

Genesis has unveiled its new flagship electric SUV, the GV90, as the luxury brand prepares to enter the Indian market. The full-size electric SUV brings a mix of premium design, futuristic cabin features and a powerful dual-motor setup.

Genesis, Hyundai Motor Group’s luxury brand, is expected to enter India in 2027. While the GV80 is likely to be one of its first models for the country, the larger GV90 could arrive later, with an India launch potentially taking place in 2028.

Genesis GV90 Is the Brand’s New Flagship SUV

The Genesis GV90 is a full-size electric SUV positioned above the brand’s existing models. It has been developed to compete with luxury electric SUVs such as the Range Rover Electric and Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV.

The GV90 measures 5,285mm in length, 2,030mm in width and up to 1,825mm in height. It gets a long 3,245mm wheelbase, which should provide plenty of space for passengers. Genesis will offer the SUV in a standard version as well as a Neolun version, which takes inspiration from the GV90 Neolun concept.

Distinctive Design With Coach Doors

The GV90 Neolun gets some of the most distinctive design elements seen on a Genesis model. It features hidden B-pillars and independently opening and closing coach doors.

Other exterior highlights include Wing Face Micro Lens Array headlamps, a clamshell bonnet, flush-mounted tail-lamps and 24-inch forged alloy wheels. The SUV also gets tight shutlines and a clean exterior design, giving it a more premium and futuristic appearance.

Futuristic Interior With Rotating Seats

The Genesis GV90 gets a technology-focused cabin with several unique features. The highlight is a pop-up OLED central touchscreen that can rise by 90mm and expand from 23.6 inches to 24.6 inches when the vehicle is parked.

The front seats can rotate through 180 degrees, creating a more lounge-like interior when the SUV is stationary. Genesis has also equipped the GV90 with a 12-airbag system, including what the company describes as the world’s first roof airbag.

GV90 Gets No Traditional Start Button

The flagship SUV also gets a new Power Control System that removes the need for a conventional start button. The vehicle can power on and close the door automatically when the driver pulls the door handle. A steering-mounted Motion Column Shifter then moves from the 12 o’clock position to the 2 o’clock position. The centre console features a Crystal Sphere Controller, which rotates to reveal the infotainment controls. These systems form part of Genesis’ Pleos Connect cockpit.

657hp Dual-Motor Powertrain

The Genesis GV90 gets a dual-motor electric powertrain. The rear motor produces 335hp and 450Nm, while the front motor develops 322hp and 350Nm. Combined, the two motors produce 657hp and 800Nm of torque.

The SUV is powered by a large 123.5kWh battery pack. Genesis says the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 22 minutes. The company expects a driving range of around 500km in South Korea. The GV90 also gets advanced chassis technology, including rear-wheel steering, multi-chamber air suspension and dual e-LSDs.

Genesis GV90 India Launch

Genesis is expected to enter India in 2027, with the GV80 likely to be among the first models introduced in the country. The GV90 is expected to follow as the brand expands its Indian portfolio. While there is no confirmed India launch date for the electric SUV yet, it could arrive in local showrooms around 2028.
