Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch two new SUVs in the country before the end of this financial year. The company will introduce the e Vitara and an all-new Escudo mid-sized SUV. With the e Vitara, MSIL will finally enter the EV segment which is currently dominated by Tata Motors, MG and Mahindra. Another big update is that the electric Vitara could be introduced as the Maruti Suzuki e Escudo. It could be launched on September 3, 2025.
The e Vitara has been spotted testing multiple times on the Indian roads. A new set of spy images reveal that the electric SUV could be launched with a new nameplate. The spotted model was seen wearing ‘e Escudo’ badge on the tailgate. This suggests that the new electric SUV could be launched as the Maruti Suzuki e Escudo. For people not in the know, the Vitara SUV on sale in the Japanese market is called the Suzuki Escudo.
It is also expected that Suzuki could be testing the export version of the electric SUV. The electric SUV is likely to carry the e Escudo nameplate for select export markets, and the e Vitara name for India as well as select international markets.
The electric SUV will be offered with a 61.1kWh battery pack with a front-axle-mounted electric motor that offers 171bhp and 192Nm. It is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph acceleration in under 9 seconds. The lower-spec e Escudo comes with 48.9kWh battery pack with a front-axle-mounted electric motor rated at 141bhp and 192Nm.
The electric SUV will support fast charging and the bigger 61.1kWh battery can attain 0 to 80% charging status in 50 minutes. The electric SUV will rival the Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric and others.
The new Maruti Suzuki e Escudo will be sold through NEXA dealership network. In terms of features, the electric SUV gets a larger 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital driver’s display, ambient lighting, fixed glass roof, wireless charger, ventilated front seats and 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat.
The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will be the first model in its line-up to offer ADAS tech. It will come with LEVEL 2 ADAS with features like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assist, auto high beam and others. Other safety features include 360-degree surround view camera, electronic parking brake with auto hold, tyre pressure monitoring system, 7 airbags, all disc brakes, blind spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors.
