Next-gen Honda Civic Imagined: Sharper Looks, Hybrid Powertrain

The Civic has been one of the most successful nameplates for the Japanese automaker globally. Honda has already started working on the next-gen Civic, which is expected to be introduced sometime in 2027. Based on the early official details, a new set of renderings have been revealed on the Internet. The new renderings preview of what the next Civic sedan might look like.

Honda has already released photos of the camouflaged prototype for the testing purposes. The prototype has the current gens bodywork, and covered in thick cloth. The independent digital artist Theophilus Chin has released the renderings based on the information available on the Internet. The renderings features the brand’s latest design language, which we have already seen on some of the global Honda cars.

The design seems inspired by the Chinese-spec Honda e:NS2. This electric crossover has recently been revealed in Japan with the Insight name. The render has sharp LED lighting signature, aggressive bumper and sleek profile. Overall, the sedan looks sleeker and more attractive than the current model in the latest rendering.

New Platform and Hybrid Engine

The next-generation Honda Civic will be based on a revised architecture, which is claimed to be 90kgs lighter than the outgoing architecture. Honda claims that the new model will offer greater structural rigidity along with sharper steering response and composed handling. Moreover, the next Civic will get a new Motion Management System paired with an upgraded Agile Handling Assist. The setup also has pitch control, helping the sedan to stay settled and balanced while cornering.

Honda is working on the upgraded version of the e:HEV self-charging hybrid system, comprising a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder engine with a pair of electric motors. The company believes that the new hybrid setup will come with a 30 percent improvement in fuel efficiency along with stronger overall performance.

Similar to the Prelude Coupe, the next Honda Civic will receive the “Honda S+ Shift” system. It will work on software, and simulates gear changes through carefully managed sound and torque modulation. The new Civic will also share around 60 percent of the components with other upcoming Honda models, including the HR-V, CR-V, and Accord.
