Renault India has confirmed that its upcoming C-segment SUV will be called the Boreal. It is the long wheelbase version of the third-gen Duster SUV, which is already on sale in select international markets. The Renault Boreal testing has finally been started and the spy images reveal some interesting details.
The new Renault Boreal is scheduled to make its global debut in Brazil later this year. The French auto-maker has already confirmed that the SUV will be introduced in more than 70 markets outside of Europe including India. The French auto-maker has already confirmed that the third generation Duster and a 7-seater SUV will be launched in India in 2026. The SUV will rival the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari and others in our market.
The spotted model was heavily camouflaged with thick cloth; however, the silhouette appears largely identical to the Dacia Bigster. However, Renault has made significant changes to give it a family look and differentiate itself from the European Dacia.
The SUV comes with a uniquely designed front grille with a prominent Renault badge. It gets a newly designed bumper that houses a wider air intake. The profile appears similar to the Bigster, but Renault likely added fake rear door handles to confuse people. In the production model, the rear door handles will be integrated into the C-pillar.
Also visible are the prominent plastic body cladding and pronounced wheel arches with multi-spoke alloy wheels. At the back, the SUV has modified bumper and a newly styled spoiler that gives it a sloping roofline. It is also expected to receive newly designed tail-lights and tailgate.
Photographer failed to click the interior, but we expect the Renault Boreal cabin will look similar to the new Duster SUV. It is likely to have a minimalist yet functional interior, featuring a simple dashboard housing a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and a 7-inch digital driver’s display. The spotted model has no sunroof, but the India-spec model is likely to offer a sunroof as an optional.
Other features likely to include automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, powered driver’s seat and 6-and 7-seat options. For safety and security, the SUV will have 6 airbags, ESC, traction control, hill start assist and hill descent control, TPMS and others. It will also get LEVEL 2 ADAS with features like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, lane assist and others.
The global spec model is likely to come with a 128bhp, 1.2L 3-cylinder mild hybrid engine and a 1.8L petrol engine with a full hybrid system offering 153bhp. The India-spec model is most likely to get the 151bhp, 1.3L turbocharged petrol engine with manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox options. Renault India is also exploring hybrid engine for the third-gen Duster and Boreal.
