Skoda starts road testing of the Enyaq iV in India; Brand’s first all-electric offering promises a range of 520 kilometres; Expect it to be launched by 2023.
Skoda India is all set to introduce its first EV, the Enyaq iV, for customers in the country. The premium all-electric SUV was spotted during a road test and according to media reports will most likely debut in India by early 2023. The Enyaq iV will be the first EV offering from the Czech automaker, who is exploring opportunities to expand and diversify its portfolio. Initially the Enyaq iV will be brought to India through the CBU route with plans for localisation at a later stage.
The Enyaq iV is Skoda’s first EV to be underpinned by Volkswagen Group’s MEB modular platform. Internationally, the electric SUV is offered in five trim levels, namely 50, 60, 80, 80X and the sporty vRS. The variants are differentiated by the size of the battery pack and the drive system fitted in them.
The Enyaq is a comfortable 5 seater SUV measuring 4649mm in length, which is marginally smaller than the current-gen Skoda Octavia. The four-wheeler follows the brand's latest “Crystal Face” design philosophy, offering an illuminated front grille. The overall design is quite sharp with creases from the front to rear.
Compared to the exterior, the interior of the vehicle is subtle in nature with a lot of modern tech on offer. The safety equipment list includes 9 airbags, ADAS, proactive occupant protection, and crew protection assist along with a slew of other active and passive features.
The spy shots showcased the Enyaq in the 80X trim, which gets the largest battery pack (77 kWh) and an all-wheel-drive system. The vehicle is capable of churning out 265 bhp of power through its two motors mounted on the front and the rear axle. It offers a claimed range of 520 kms and can complete the 0-100 kmph sprint in under 7 seconds. The battery pack supports 125 kW DC fast charging and lets you get to recharge from 10 percent – 80 percent in under 38 minutes. Further the vehicle is provided with 19-inch Proteus alloy wheels, two spoke D cut steering wheel, 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an all-digital instrument cluster.
The Skoda Enyaq iV premium all-electric SUV is expected to debut by early 2023 in India with deliveries likely to commence from April 2023. We believe the EV will be priced around Rs. 60 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will take on the likes of recently launched BMW i4 and Kia EV6, the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Volvo XC40 Recharge.
