The South Korean automaker finally launched the Ioniq 5 EV at the event with an introductory price tag of Rs 44.95 lakh (ex-showroom) which will be applicable for the first 500 units. Customers can book the new electric crossover via an authorized dealer or through Hyundai’s official website with a token amount of Rs 1 lakh. When compared to the sister concern model, the EV 6 (Rs 60.95 lakh - Rs 65.95 lakh), the Ioniq 5 is cheaper due to it being a CKD rather than a CBU.
Inspired by the 45 EV Concept showcased during the 2019 Frankfurt Auto Show, the Ioniq 5 has a refreshing retro design featuring sharp lines, flat surfaces, and raked windscreens. The headlamps and tail lights are Parametric pixel LED units while the 20-inch alloy wheels follow in line with the pixelated design.
Inside, the Ioniq 5 follows the EV trend of a minimalist interior with flexible seats and a movable centre console with the skateboard platform allowing for a fully-flat floor. The cabin uses sustainable materials like recycled plastic bottles, bio-paint and eco-friendly leather. Notable features include dual 12-inch displays for the infotainment system and instrument console, a HUD with AR functions, powered boot lid, auto climate control, ventilated front seats, heated ORVMs, and more. The EV crossover also comes equipped with Level 2 ADAS with 21 features.
It is being offered with two battery pack options, a 58 kWh or a 72.6 kWh unit. Both variants can be specced with either RWD or AWD. With the 58 kWh battery pack, the electric vehicle has a claimed range of 383 kms while the 72.6 kWh variant provides a range of 481 kms on a single charge. The four-wheeler also supports 800V super fast charging which can charge the battery from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes.
Alongside the Ioniq 5, Hyundai is also showcasing the Ioniq 6 electric sedan. Unlike its smaller sibling, the Ioniq 6 has a very futuristic design with a low nose and flush-fitting Parametric pixel LED headlights and DRLs. The side profile features flush-fitting door handles and camera instead of regular ORVMs as well as a slight boat tail structure and curved shoulder line. Moving to the rear end, it provides a boot lid spoiler and pixelated LED tail lights. The slippery shape is incredibly aero-efficient with a drag coefficient of just 0.22.
Inside, the Ioniq 6 gets a dual 12.3-inch display setup for the infotainment screen and instrument cluster which uses a single piece of glass for a seamless look. The interior uses recyclable materials for the upholstery and you get features like pixel lights on the steering wheel, auto climate control, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, and more.
The Ioniq 6 will be offered in two battery sizes, a 53 kWh unit and a 77 kWh unit. A single-motor RWD setup is standard with dual-motor AWD offered as an option in higher variants. The former with the 77 kWh unit offers 614 kms of range and 429 kms with the 53 kWh battery pack. The AWD models have a certified range of 583 kms. The electric sedan can fast charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes using a 350 kW DC charger while the standard 10.9 kW wall charger delivers full charge in 7 hours and 10 minutes.
Also on display is the Nexo fuel cell electric vehicle. Visually, the Nexo FCEV looks like an SUV in its profile. The front end features Hyundai’s trademark cascading grille and a full LED split headlight setup. You will also notice the slim D-pillar, flush door handles, floating roof, 5-spoke alloy wheels and a prominent rear spoiler.
Inside, the Nexo is said to offer twin LCD displays that incorporate a 7-inch instrument console and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. The interior uses sustainable and eco-friendly materials like vegan leather for the seats and sugar cane for the floor mats and headliners. Other features include a powered bootlid, sunroof, and an audio setup from Krell. It also comes equipped with ADAS tech like Blind-Spot View Monitor, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Highway Driving Assist, and more.
The electric four-wheeler uses a bespoke architecture with the battery being placed in the boot. There are three identical hydrogen tanks with a volume of 52.2 litres each which takes only 5 minutes to top up. It uses a 95 kWh fuel cell that powers a single electric motor making 161 bhp and 395 Nm of peak torque. Hyundai claims a range of up to 756 km for its FCEV.
