In 2024, we are expecting to see more new cars running on compressed natural gas (CNG) hitting Indian roads. With advancements in technology, these upcoming CNG cars will be more efficient and affordable.
So, keep an eye out for these upcoming CNG cars in 2024.
Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to unveil the Next-Generation Swift very soon. Initially showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show, the car has been undergoing tests in India.
What is catching everyone's attention is the inclusion of a new 3-cylinder Z12E petrol engine in the Swift. Given the popularity of the Swift CNG, there is a probability that the automaker might offer a CNG trim with the upcoming model.
Its petrol version is said to generate a maximum power output of 80 bhp with 108 Nm of peak torque. However, the CNG version might likely see a slight dip in performance.
Expect the New-Gen Maruti Swift to hit the Indian market in the first half of 2024. Talking about its prices, it is likely to get a price hike ranging from Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000, depending on the chosen variant.
Just like the Swift, the Dzire is also going to be given an update in 2024. It is highly anticipated that Maruti will introduce a CNG variant for the New Dzire.
Expectations are that it will retain the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, but this time paired with CNG technology. As for the launch, the New Maruti Suzuki Dzire is expected to hit the market around the same time as the Swift, with the possibility of the CNG variant being available right from the start.
Toyota is set to introduce a new car this year, which is actually a rebadged version of the Fronx. Rumours suggest it could be named the Taisor.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx already comes equipped with a 1.2-litre petrol engine paired with a CNG setup, so the Taisor is likely to offer a CNG option as well. This CNG setup delivers 76 bhp and 98 Nm of torque, ensuring decent performance.
When it comes to design, the Taisor may undergo some changes compared to the Fronx. Despite these design tweaks, it is expected to retain the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and the 1.0-litre turbo petrol option.
Expect the upcoming Toyota CNG car to hit the market in the first half of 2024.

Kia Motors India has exciting plans for launching its Carens MPV in a CNG avatar. While details are still under wraps, it is speculated that the Carens CNG might sport a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired to a 6-speed manual transmission.
Despite the CNG addition, the Carens is expected to maintain its signature styling and features, although it may compromise on boot space due to the tank placement.
Currently priced between Rs 10.45 to Rs 19.45 lakh (ex-showroom), the CNG variants are projected to cost around Rs 1 lakh more upon their anticipated launch this year.
Apart from Carens CNG, Kia has also plans to roll out the CNG variant of the Sonet Facelift by mid-2024. Though not officially confirmed yet, it is going to be in the offering for Indian customers.
The upcoming Kia Sonet CNG is likely to feature a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox.
While exact pricing details are yet to be disclosed, it is expected that the CNG variants may cost around Rs 1 lakh more than their petrol counterparts.
During the Bharat Mobility Expo 2024, Tata Motors unveiled its latest innovation, the Nexon i-CNG Concept. This model is an extension of the recently updated Nexon SUV. Despite being a CNG variant, it will retain the same design and features as its petrol and diesel counterparts.
The Nexon i-CNG will be equipped with a turbocharged twin-cylinder petrol engine and will offer a practical amount of usable boot space.
Once launched, the Nexon will stand out as the only vehicle in India to offer such a diverse range of powertrain options, including petrol, diesel, CNG, and electric. Transmission options will also be varied, including MT, AMT, and DCT.
