Renault India, founded in October 2005, officially started producing cars at its plant in 2011. While prospective customers do not have a lot of choices when choosing Renault cars in India, with just one crossover hatchback, one subcompact crossover SUV, and one MPV, it is still advised to have a clear understanding of your needs for a vehicle. 

As stated above, Renault cars in India are limited to Kwid, Kiger and Triber respectively. All three of the current Renault cars in India are based on the same platform, which makes a few people wonder which car is the best pick for them. Luckily, we are here to help.

Renault Hatchback: Kwid

The Renault Kwid is a crossover hatchback that is perfect for the city. With unique crossover-like looks in a small package, the Kwid zooms past the competition. It is the oldest of the current Renault cars in India as its first generation debuted in India in 2015, with a price tag of Rs 2.57 Lakh, which was an instant hit with the consumers. The Kwid currently starts at Rs 4.64 lakh (ex-showroom) and has gone through one facelift in 2019. 

Renault Kwid: Specs

Initially the Renault Kwid was available with only an 800cc engine producing 54hp and 72 Nm of torque, but later received the 1L option producing 67hp and 91 Nm of torque, both options featuring an automated manual transmission (AMT), as well as a traditional manual transmission. Best for small families, the 5-door hatchback offers a 300L boot space (expandable to 620L) and a mileage of 25 kmpl making it a very desirable option mainly for small families having daily intra-city travel.

Renault Kwid: Interiors and Features

In terms of interiors, the Kwid comes equipped with an 8-inch infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, steering mounted controls, dual airbags, ABS with EBD and more.

Renault SUV: Kiger

Kiger

The Renault Kiger is a subcompact SUV that changed the fortunes of the company when it was launched at the start of 2021. It Kiger slots in between the Kwid and the now-discontinued Duster in Renault India’s range. The SUVs price starts at Rs 5.84 lakh (ex-showroom) 

Renault Kiger: Specs

The Renault Kiger comes equipped with two petrol engine option. The first is the 1.0-litre NA engine producing 71 bhp and 96 Nm, while the other is the 1.0-litre turbo petrol rated for 99 bhp and 160 Nm. The former is offered with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed Easy-R AMT while the latter get CVT option.

Renault Kiger: Interiors and Features

The Kiger is filled with features such as, drive modes selector, 7-inch digital speedometer, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automated climate control, LED headlights with DRLs, wireless phone charger, cruise control (turbo variants only) and a PM2.5 air filter. In terms of safety the car gets 4 airbags, a rear-view camera and parking sensor for an overall 4-start GNCAP rating. It comes with a best-in-class boot space of 405L which is expandable up to 800L. 

Renault Kiger: Design

Often praised for its looks, practicality, all-roundedness, and most importantly, spaciousness, the Kiger is best for a small medium-sized family. Kiger also is a fun drive for long distances.

Renault MPV: Triber

Triber

The Renault Triber is the only MPV offered by Renault cars in India. It is a 5-door mini MPV and shares the same CMF-A platform as that of the Kwid and the Kiger. The Triber is the only 3-row MPV in the sub-4-meter length. 

Renault Triber: Specs

The Renault Triber shares the same 1.0-litre petrol engine as that of the Kwid, producing 71 hp and 96 Nm of torque. There are two transmission options, a 5-speed manual, and a 5-speed Easy-R AMT. 

Renault Triber: Interiors and Features

The car provides excellent seating comfort and ride comfort, where even the third row is provided with ample headroom, with the air conditioning vents placed above. There is the same 8-inch infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, LED instrument cluster and a smart access key card inside the cabin. The car also boasts of a large 625-litres of boot space with the third row folded down. Best for large-sized families, allowing up to 8 passengers to sit comfortably, this all-rounder MPV makes city driving extremely efficient and stress-free. Starting from Rs 5.76 lakh (ex-showroom), it is very competitively priced and undercuts some of the established MUVs in the current market. Boasting a 4-star safety rating in the Global NCAP, the Triber get 4 airbags at the front, a cooled glove box, a 6-way adjustable driver seat as well as a high ground clearance.

Renault Triber: Design

Released in August of 2019, it is a design miracle as it fits the previously mentioned 3-rows.

If you are currently looking to choose between the Renault cars in India, the Kwid is best for small families or 4 passengers but will be a little problematic for the rear passengers due to lesser legroom,  the Kiger is a slightly larger car which can house 5 passengers quite comfortably, while the Triber which is an MPV is best for seating large-sized families.
