BYD (Build Your Dreams) makes a grand debut at the Auto Expo 2023 with the launch of two new electric vehicle concepts. The electric vehicle manufacturer recently launched the Atto-3 SUV in the Indian market at a starting price of Rs 33.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Following the love that the Atto-3 received at launch, BYD has taken the next step and showcased yet another new concept called the Seal at this year’s event. BYD Seal Electric Sedan Concept: Design The Seal is BYD’s latest launch in the international market and draws inspiration from the Ocean X concept that was showcased in 2021. The new model features a sleek aerodynamic design that is seen on models like the Hyundai IONIQ 6 and the Tesla Model 3 in the international market. Built on the e-Platform 3.0, the Seal is a big car in all dimensions measuring 4.8-metres in length, 1.8-metres in width and 1.45 metres in height. The Seal also sports a longer 2920 mm wheelbase when compared to the Tesla Model 3. Upfront, the four-wheeler features a drooping nose that is characteristic of most electric sedans along with sleek angular headlamps. Lower down the car also gets a large bumper with angular lines and an air intake. Towards the sides one can see the coupe-like roofline along with characteristic lines originating from the front arch and extending till the rear of the car. Another unique feature on the new model is the use of flush-fitting door handles and aero optimised wheels. At the rear, the electric sedan features a notchback like short boot that houses a sleek LED light bar that runs the full width of the car. Overall, the Seal exudes a futuristic yet familiar appearance. Moving inside, the Seal EV features a familiar layout as the Atto-3 and the e6 MPV. The centrepiece of the cabin is the large 15.6-inch swivelling touchscreen along with another 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Unlike the Atto-3 that uses dumble style AC vents, the Seal uses conventional vents. BYD Seal Electric Sedan Concept: Powertrain and Technology Alongside the e-Platform 3.0, BYD also introduced the CTB (cell-to-body) technology which allows the battery to be integrated into the body as a component of the chassis to improve the safety, stability, handling and performance of the vehicle. The BYD Seal is offered with two battery pack options in the international market in both RWD and AWD configuration. The smaller battery pack with the dual motor setup is rated for a maximum power output of 312 bhp and 550 kilometres of range, while the larger battery pack in the same configuration provides a combined power output of 530 bhp and an extended range of up to 700 kilometres.
