Tata sold over 70K vehicles in the domestic market Hyundai registered its highest-ever domestic sales in January 2026
Indian car manufacturers have released their sales numbers for the month of January 2026. While Maruti Suzuki remains at the top position, Tata Motors secured the 2nd position by beating the likes of Mahindra and Hyundai.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. has registered a total sales (Domestic & International) of 71,066 vehicles in the month of January 2026, reporting an impressive YoY sales growth of 47.1 percent. In the same month last year, Tata had recorded 48,316 sales.
In the domestic market, the company sold 70,222 vehicles as against 48,076 units in January 2025, reporting a YoY growth of 46.1 percent. The company exported 844 vehicles, and reported a massive YoY jump of 251.7%. Tata has also consolidated its position in the EV segment with 9,052 electric vehicles sold in January 2026 as against 5,240 vehicles in the same month last year.
Mahindra & Mahindra has reported a total auto sales of 1,04,309 vehicles in January 2026, a YoY sales growth of 24 percent. The company has sold a total of 63,510 SUVs in domestic market, reporting an impressive YoY sales growth of 25 percent.

Mahindra has exported 3,577 vehicles, compared with 3,404 units in January 2025, reporting a YoY sales growth of 5 percent. Commending on the sales, Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO, Automotive Division, M7M Ltd, said, “Building on the strong momentum of last year’s performance, we began the year on a strong note in January by achieving SUV sales of 63,510 units, a growth of 25% and LCD< 3.5T sales of 27,656 units, a growth of 22%”

The Korean brand has recorded its highest-ever monthly domestic sales of 59,107 vehicles in January 2026, registering a 9.5% year-on-year growth. Hyundai also achieved its highest-ever total monthly sales of 73,137 units in January 2026, with a robust year-on-year growth of 11.5%, including monthly export sales of 14,030 units with year-on-year growth of 20.9%. Hyundai sold a total of 12143 units of the new-gen Venue, while the Aura registered its highest-ever monthly sales of 7,978 units.

The remarkable 20.9% growth in exports to 14,030 units underscores the trust brand Hyundai continues to inspire across global markets. Toyota has released its sales numbers for the month of January 2026, with the total sales of 33,880 units compared to 29,371 units sold in January 2025. The company sold a total of 30,630 vehicles in domestic market, while 3,250 units were exported. Toyota registered an impressive YoY sales growth of 17 percent, as the brand’s January 2025 sales were 26,178 units.
Commenting on the sales performance, Mr. Sabari Manohar, Executive Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said, “The year 2026 started on a positive and encouraging note, with continued momentum of our product portfolio and customers trust in our commitment to quality, safety and sustainability. A key highlight during January was the launch of the All-Electric URBAN CRUISER EBELLA, further strengthening our focus on delivering future-ready mobility solutions aligned with evolving customer expectations. This launch marks a significant step in enhancing our value proposition and reinforces our continued support to India’s transition towards carbon neutrality, greener and sustainable mobility.”

Kia India has reported a total sales of 27,603 vehicles in January 2026, reporting a year-on-year sales growth of 10.3 percent. In the same month last year, Kia sold 25,025 units in India. The company claims that they have received an encouraging market response to the all-new Kia Seltos. Adding to it, the sustained performance of the Kia Sonet, and good traction for the Kia Carens Clavis and the Clavis EV helped the Korean brand to post positive sales numbers.
Commenting on the monthly performance, Mr. Atul Sood, Senior Vice-President, Sales & Marketing, Kia India said, “The encouraging start to 2026 reflects the continued trust customers place in the Kia brand. The positive response to the new-generation Seltos, steady demand for the Sonet, and growing popularity of the Carens Clavis and Clavis EV, underline the strength and balance of our portfolio. This performance reinforces our focus on offering well-differentiated, future-ready products across segments, while consistently enhancing the overall ownership experience”
JSW MG Motor India has sold a total of 4,843 vehicles in the month of January 2026, registering a 9 percent year-on-year growth. MG claims that the brand’s premium cars, including the Cyberster and MG under MG Select, are receiving strong market response. Moreover, the steady traction for the Windsor EV and the all-new Hector helps the brand to post positive sales. The company is gearing up to introduce the MG Majestor full-size SUV on February 12, 2026.
