Honda Cars India has unveiled its much-awaited City e:HEV in the country, thereby taking their second shot at the highly popular electric vehicle segment. Upcoming Honda City e:HEV will provide a class-leading mileage of 26.5 kmpl.
We all know or must be aware that our beloved Honda City will soon be getting an electric hybrid variant. Having said that, now what we can tell you is that the City e:HEV will offer an amazing mileage of 26.5 kmpl. The vehicle uses a unique self-charging two-motor sports hybrid system that maximises fuel efficiency by automatically switching between the EV and hybrid modes based on speed. Once launched, the car will be among the most fuel-efficient vehicles available in India.Honda City e:HEV Design: The overall exterior design of the sedan remains similar to the 5th Generation City but features specific updates to make its outlook sporty. The upgrades to the design include a new fog lamp garnish, distinct blue surrounds to the Honda logo, e:HEV badging and a new trunk spoiler. The new model also features updated ivory and black theme for the interior.
Honda City e:HEV Sustainability: The New City e:HEV provides a strong hybrid setup that utilises two electric motors, which work as a generator on the input side and as a traction motor on the output side. Its 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine drives an electric motor that works as a generator to produce electric charge. The energy so produced will be directly transferred to the traction motor, which drives the front wheels, while excess power is transferred to the Li-ion battery on board. The total output of the four-wheeler is rated at 125 bhp and 253 Nm torque. The car pulls cleanly to an indicated top speed of 176 kmph.
Honda City e:HEV Convenience:
It offers three drive modes for added convenience. In the pure EV mode, at speeds less than 40 kmph, the vehicle runs on the energy drawn from its Li-ion battery. Between 40 and 80 kmph, the system switches over to the hybrid mode where the ICE runs the generator, which feeds energy to the traction motor. At speeds above 80 kmph, the system runs purely on engine power with boost assistance from the hybrid system. This automatic switching between different drive modes helps the system achieve a best-in-class mileage. Other convenience features include ambient lighting and an electric park brake with an Auto-Hold function.
Honda City e:HEV Safety:
Working towards its global goal of zero traffic collision fatalities by 2050, the automaker is offering the City e:HEV with Honda Sensing Technology. The sedan uses an ultra-wide-angle front-facing camera to provide features like Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM), Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control and Auto High Beam.
Honda also provides a disk brake at all four corners and an electric servo brake that helps in energy regeneration during braking. The electric servo brake further helps reduce the wear and tear on the brake pads thereby reducing service cost.
Honda City e:HEV Variant: City e:HEV will be available only in the top-of-the-line ZX trim. Bookings for the car are open and customers can make their requests either by going to the nearest dealer or through Honda’s official website.
The car will be manufactured in India and we expect Honda to reveal the pricing of this upcoming vehicle by the first week of May 2022.
