The Korean automaker, Hyundai is preparing to introduce new sub-4 meter SUVs in the country in the next couple of years. The company plans to launch 2 new ICE-powered compact SUVs and an all-new micro SUV with an electric powertrain. Let's talk in detail about the upcoming Hyundai compact SUVs in India -
Hyundai has started working on the next-gen Venue compact SUV that has been caught testing multiple times on the Indian roads. The next-gen Hyundai Venue is reportedly to be launched in the country in the end of 2025. It will be based on the existing platform, which will also underpin a new sub-4 meter EV.
The next-gen Hyundai Venue will come with significant design and interior changes along with several new features addition. Internally codenamed QU2i, the new Venue will have less angular design while retaining the boxy proportions. The 2026 Hyundai Venue will come with front parking sensors and LEVEL 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). Its cabin will receive significant changes inline with latest Creta and Alcazar. The SUV is likely to get bigger touchscreen infotainment unit, a new digital driver's display, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats and others.
The next-gen Hyundai Venue is likely to retain the existing engine options - a 118bhp, 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol, 82bhp, 1.2L NA petrol and a 113bhp, 1.5L turbo diesel. Transmission choices are likely to include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed iMT, a 7-speed DCT and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
The Korean brand will launch an all-new entry-level electric SUV based on the Inster EV on sale in global markets. Likely to be launched in 2026, the new Hyundai Inster EV will be manufactured at the brand's Sriperumbudur factory. Codenamed HE1i, the new electric SUV is likely to have similar dimensions to the Exter micro SUV.
The new electric SUV will be based on Hyundai's global and affordable E-GMP (K) platform. In terms of proportions, the Inster EV is 3825mm long, 1610mm wide and 1575mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2580mm. This electric SUV is offered with two battery packs - a 42kWh and a 49kWh - with a front-axle-mounted electric motor. While the former is good for 96bhp and 147Nm of torque, the bigger battery version offers 113bhp and 147Nm. In fact, the entry-level car supports fast charging, and the car's battery can be charged from 10-80 percent in around 30 mins.
The Korean brand is also working on a new compact SUV, which will sit between the Exter and Venue in its line-up. Codenamed BC4i, the new compact SUV is expected to be launched in 2026. It will be based on the Hyundai Bayon crossover on sale in global markets. To be positioned against the Maruti Fronx, the new compact SUV will sit below 4 meters in length.
The new Hyundai Bayon crossover is expected to share features and engine options with the Venue compact SUV. It will be based on the i20 platform, which will allow Hyundai to achieve competitive pricing. The new compact SUV will be produced at Hyundai's Sriperumbudur plant.
