Lexus Cars has just announced that it will be launching the new second-gen LM in India soon. The automaker has started accepting bookings and also revealed the first set of details about the new MPV. Unlike the previous LM, which was sold exclusively in the Chinese market, the new model will be sold in multiple global markets, including India.
While the Lexus LM and the new Vellfire are based on the same platform, both models are clearly distinguished from each other. The 2023 LM’s front end gets Lexus’ trademark spindle grille, slim LED headlights and vertical fog lamp housings finished in silver.
Moving to the side, the large glasshouse features a slight kink at the B-pillar while the subtle creases help break the slab-sided profile monotony of the LM. At the rear, it has a comparatively minimal design with a boomerang-shaped LED light bar as the major highlight.
Lexus will offer both 4- and 7-seater configurations on the LM in India. The former gets a partitioned area between the driver and passenger area with reclining rear seats, pillow-style headrests, a 23-speaker audio setup and a 48-inch TV. It also gets heated armrests, electric ottomans, fold-out tables, wireless charging, a fridge and an umbrella holder among others. Lexus also offers a motorized dimmable glass panel that can be raised or lowered.
The new LM gets a new voice control system that Lexus states is the first of its kind that caters to rear passengers specifically. Meanwhile, an overhead console controls the door, cabin temperature and storage compartments. The rear passengers also get a smartphone-style panel that can adjust the climate, interior lighting, window blinds, audio settings, and seat functions.
At the front, the driver gets a 10.25-inch infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, a panoramic view monitor, and a digital rear-view monitor.
Lexus offers the LM with a single hybrid powertrain option globally. The LM 350h is powered by a strong-hybrid unit that pairs a 2.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine with two electric motors, making a combined output of 250 bhp with 239 Nm of max torque. Transmission duties are handled by an e-CVT automatic gearbox. The automaker is also slated to introduce a more powerful LM500h variant at a later stage.
While Lexus is expected to reveal the price for the new MPV during the first week of September, we expect the LM to be priced above the Toyota Vellfire, its sibling. The recently launched Vellfire is priced between Rs 1.2 crore (ex-showroom) - Rs 1.3 crore (ex-showroom). This means the all-new Lexus LM will be priced at around Rs 1.5 crore (ex-showroom).
