Day 2 of Auto Expo is big because Maruti Suzuki has unveiled two new products. Alongside the much-awaited Jimny 5-door, the company has showcased the Fronx crossover-SUV based on the Baleno hatchback. Previously codename YTB, the Fronx has been spied numerous times while conducting test runs on the Indian roads. Here is a quick look at the Maruti Suzuki Fronx.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx features a very rugged profile in comparison to the Baleno hatchback. Designed with the new philosophy called the ‘Shape of new’, the Fronx gets new elements and lines on all its surfaces. Up front the car gets a new face that is similar to the Grand Vitara but is differentiated with a new 3-pod LED headlamp on the bumper along with a more sculpted fender. Towards the side, the aerodynamic silhouette of the Fronx is visible with the coupe-like roofline along with sharp lines. At the rear the four-wheeler gets an all-new tailgate that features a slim LED connected brake light bar that is very similar in look to the recently launched Hyundai Tucson. Amplifying the SUV appeal of the Fronx, the company has provided thick body cladding all-around.

Talking about the interior layout, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx offers the same cabin as the Baleno hatchback. It features a floating touchscreen infotainment system right in the center and a flat bottom steering wheel with audio controls. In terms of features, it provides a 360-degree camera system, a semi-digital instrument console, a heads-up display, automatic climate control, multiple airbags, and more.
Based on the same HEARTECT platform as the hatchback, the Fronx comes powered by two engine options. The first is the familiar 1.2-litre K-Series petrol unit while the second is the return of the 1.0-litre turbo Booster Jet engine. The K-Series unit is available with both the 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearbox as the hatchback while the new Booster Jet is available with 5-speed manual and a new 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters. The new powerful turbo petrol mill also produces 100 bhp and 148 Nm of torque making it exciting to drive and engaging to drive.
