Audi is set to launch the Q9 next year, a full-size luxury SUV that will be positioned above the Q7. With this, Audi aims to compete with top rivals like the BMW X7, Mercedes-Benz GLS, and the L460 Range Rover. The Q9 is expected to offer more space, advanced technology, and premium features, making it a strong choice for those looking for a high-end, three-row SUV.
The Audi Q9's design closely resembles the next-generation Q7, featuring a bold and modern look. At the front, it sports a large hexagon-patterned grille, flanked by a split headlight setup and a wide air dam with matching hexagonal elements on the lower bumper. Moving to the rear, the SUV includes a sleek roof spoiler and a lightbar that spans its entire width. The test model also features quad exhaust tips, hinting at the possibility of a sportier SQ9 variant in development.
Compared to last year’s spy shots of the next-gen Q7, the Audi Q9 appears to have a longer wheelbase and extended rear overhang, suggesting more space for second- and third-row passengers. While the Q9 is expected to come with a standard seven-seat layout, a more premium six-seat configuration could also be an option.
The Audi Q9 is expected to be built on an extended version of Volkswagen’s new Premium Platform Combustion (PPC), designed to support longitudinally mounted engines. This allows for a range of powertrain options, from 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engines to powerful V8 units.
Additionally, all Q9 variants are likely to feature plug-in hybrid powertrains. With Audi re-evaluating its internal combustion engine (ICE) launch strategy due to slower EV adoption, the brand is focusing more on hybrid technology, making it a key part of the Q9 lineup.
