Honda to Launch 7-Seater Hybrid SUV to Rival Safari and XUV700

In a bid to improve sales, Honda Cars India is planning to launch 5 new SUVs by the end of this decade. The company will enter the EV segment with an all-new SUV in 2026. Adding to it, the Honda Elevate is expected to receive a hybrid powertrain in near future. The Japanese brand will also launch a new 7-seater SUV to take on the likes of the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700.

New PF2 Architecture

Honda is developing a global platform, codenamed PF2 to manufacturer small and medium range cars. The all-new modular platform will be used to develop sedans, SUVs, EVs and hybrids, and India is likely to be the global production base. The brand’s future SUVs and the next-generation City sedan will be based on the new modular platform.

7-seater Honda Hybrid SUV

Honda is preparing a new 3-row SUV, which will be based on the PF2 modular platform. The new 7-seater Honda SUV is expected to be launched in the country in 2027. It will directly rival the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and Hyundai Alcazar.

Honda’s Japan and Thailand R&D centres with inputs from India will design and develop the new 7-seater SUV. The new SUV will be heavily localised to achieve competitive pricing. Moreover, the new Honda SUV will receive a locally developed hybrid powertrain.

The PF2 platform is designed to be hybrid ready from day one. The new Honda 7-seater SUV is likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that powers the Elevate. The hybrid version could get an upgraded version of City’s e:HEV hybrid powertrain. It is a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine paired with two electric motors and a small battery pack. This self-charging hybrid system doesn’t need external charging and automatically switches between EV, hybrid, and petrol models for maximum efficiency.
