New Mahindra Bolero/ Thar Sports SUV Likely to Share Design with Vision S

Mahindra is testing an all-new compact SUV, which is rumoured to be launched in early 2026. It was speculated to be the next-generation Bolero; however, few media reports claim that the new model could be the Thar Sports. At the Freedom_NU event, Mahindra showcased 4 concepts - Vision S, Vision SXT, Vision T and Vision X. The Vision S concept closely resembles the new compact SUV that has been caught testing numerous times on the Indian roads.

Lifestyle SUV - What to expect?

The all-new Mahindra compact SUV appears 4 meters long, while the Vision S concept measures close to 4.3 meters in length. In fact, the Vision S based SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the Maruti Grand Vitara.

New Mahindra Thar Sports Side Profile

The all-new Mahindra compact SUV will be marketed as a lifestyle SUV, which is evident from the styling exposed during test rounds. Another update is that the new SUV will be a front-wheel-drive SUV and could use either the brand’s new ‘NU_IQ’ modular platform or XUV 3XO’s platform.

The new SUV carries tough looks, featuring a squarish body with modern design elements. It comes with an all-new front fascia, featuring Scorpio-N like front grille, Thar-Roxx like circular headlamps and an upright nose. There is a prominent bumper that houses new LED fog lamps. The lifestyle SUV has shorter overhangs, squared-out wheel arches, side-hinged rear door, a tailgate-mounted spare wheel and vertically-stacked tail-lamps.

Mahindra Vision S Concept Side

The all-new Mahindra compact SUV is expected to get modern comfort and convenience features, which are missing in the existing Boleros. It could get a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless connectivity, a digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, powered driver’s seat, LEVEL 2 ADAS and others.

What’s Under the Hood?

The new Mahindra compact SUV is likely to share the powertrains with the XUV 3XO, which includes a 1.5-litre turbo diesel and a 1.2L turbo petrol. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer. A hybrid powertrain could join the line-up at a later stage.
