Earlier this year, Mahindra & Mahindra revealed its ambitious plan to launch up to 16 new models over the next six years. The lineup includes nine ICE (internal combustion engine) SUVs and seven new electric SUVs. Additionally, the company is developing an all-new ICE platform (codenamed U171), which will serve as the foundation for the next-generation Bolero. Let’s take a look at 5 key details of the new Mahindra Bolero that we know so far.
While the official launch timeline for the new-gen Mahindra Bolero is yet to be announced, it is expected to arrive between 2026 and 2027.
The development of the new architecture will be a significant investment, with over Rs 2,000 crore allocated—nearly one-fifth of the Rs 10,000 crore reserved for Mahindra’s upcoming EVs. The U171 platform will underpin three forthcoming Mahindra SUVs, which are collectively expected to achieve annual sales of around 1.5 lakh units.
Details of the new Mahindra Bolero remain scarce at this stage. However, the SUV is expected to undergo significant upgrades in design, interiors, and engine options.
Under the hood, the next-gen Bolero might feature a new 2.2L turbo diesel engine borrowed from the Thar. This engine produces 132bhp and 320Nm of torque. Additionally, a 1.5L turbo diesel engine, previously seen in the Marazzo, might also be offered.
Reports suggest that the new Bolero will be available in multiple seating configurations, including 5-seat and 7-seat options. The sub-4-metre 5-seater version is likely to replace the existing Bolero and Bolero Neo. Meanwhile, the three-row Bolero variant will be longer than its 5-seater counterpart, providing enough space to accommodate seven adult passengers comfortably.
Aiming for a top safety rating in NCAP crash tests, the new Mahindra Bolero might come with forward-facing third-row seats, similar to the Scorpio N. Additionally, an extra-long ‘XL’ variant is planned to rival the Force Citiline 9-seater MUV.
MG Hector petrol variants now E20 fuel compatible; 2025 model launched with no price hike, meeting new emission norms and supporting sustainable mobility.
