Honda aims to develop a new global platform which is internally known as PF2. This all-new modular platform will be used for a range of upcoming Honda SUVs and sedans. The 7-seater SUV, 6th-gen City, a compact SUV, and Honda's second EV will be underpinned by the PF2 architecture. These upcoming Honda cars will come to the market between 2028 and 2029.
Following in the footsteps of Toyota, Honda will use the multi-powertrain strategy. This suggests the new PF2 platform will support ICE, hybrid, and electric powertrains for future products. Honda is also preparing the next-gen City sedan, which will be based on the new platform. The new model will have a different design, better interiors and new architecture.
Another model to be based on the new PF2 platform will be the Next-Gen City. Scheduled to launch in 2028, this 6th-gen City sedan will be powered by naturally aspirated petrol and hybrid units. Design-wise, the upcoming sedan will feature an all-new design language, making it look more distinctive than the current model. Interior and tech features will also be radically changed from the 5th-gen City. As for the production, it is likely to start in May 2028.
The first model to be based on this new PF2 platform is likely to be a 7-seater SUV. Expected to launch in 2027, the upcoming 7-seater SUV will sit above the Elevate that is sold as WR-V in Japan. As for the powertrain, the upcoming Honda 7-seater SUV is expected to use the same engine as Elevate. However, this 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine will come with a strong hybrid setup. Its production will begin in October 2027.
The Elevate SUV was exported to global markets that doubled the domestic sales of Elevate. This eventually made Honda the best auto importer in the country. Seeing the success of WR-V in Japan, Honda aims to expand India as the export hub.
