In a bid to regain its lost market share, Renault India is preparing to launch multiple new models, including the Kiger facelift, new-gen Duster and an all-new 7-seater SUV. The third-gen Renault Duster will arrive in our market in the first quarter of 2026. A new 7-seater derivative of the Duster, called the Renault Boreal will also be launched in the country in 2026.
Renault has started testing the new 7-seater Duster on the Indian roads. It is expected to be launched in our market sometime in mid-2026, most probably around July-August. However, Renault is yet to reveal the launch date of the SUV officially.
Renault has recently revealed the Boreal mid-sized SUV in Brazil. It is basically the Renault’s version of the Dacia Bigster. The new Boreal is based on the CMF-B modular platform that also underpins the Duster. While the global-spec model is a 5-seater SUV, the Renault Boreal for India will be a 3-row SUV.
In terms of proportions, the Renault Boreal is 4,556mm long, 2082mm wide and 1650mm tall. The SUV rides on a 2702mm long wheelbase, while the ground clearance stands at 213mm. With all seats in position, the 5-seater Boreal offers a boot space of 522-litres. The luggage space can be further extended to 1,279-litres by folding the rear seats.
Renault India will utilise the boot space to accommodate third-row seat. The length could be further extended up to 4.7 meters to create more space for both second and third-row occupants. The French auto-maker has already announced that the new model will be a proper 7-seater SUV.

The global-spec Boreal is available with 1.3-litre, turbocharged direct injection engine. The Brazilian market will also receive a flex fuel version of the powertrain. While the flex fuel version will produce up to 163hp, the petrol model produces 156hp and 270Nm of torque. In Turkey, the same powertrain will produces 138hp and 240Nm of torque.
It is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph in 9.26 seconds. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic double wet clutch EDC. The India-spec model is likely to get the 1.3L turbo petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox choices. Moreover, Renault India is also considering the hybrid derivative of new-gen Duster and Boreal 7-seater SUVs. The new SUV will rival the likes of the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari and others in the 7-seater SUV segment.
